Richard, are you sure this is a major concern? I discussed this point with my uro & he claimed the anticholinergic effects of antihistamines (at least Atarax) are very small, compared to, say, that of bladder control meds. Basically, no biggy, according to him.
I tried Atarax last year for my chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome and was in a fair amount of pain with it so stopped.
Did you give it enough time? I also felt discomfort, not to mention terrible drowsiness, the first 2-3 weeks of trying it - but after that any side effects seem to dissipate. Now I take it regularly, 20-30mg daily (while discontinuing Detrol for bladder control) & I have to say, coincidentally or not, I feel better than I did a month ago.

I should add that I take Atarax concurrently with Quercetin, but you mentioned that didn't help you either.

Best, Dave

Hi Dave, I only think its a concern based on the reaction I had to the Atarax. The pain and tightness from that was pretty intense.

I stopped after only taking it for 3 days due to the pain - though I didn't feel drowsy at all. I've not given it a longer try since as my frequency feelings have dramatically reduced due to PT and any slight burning I had on occasion has been taken away by the prelief.

Richard - so Nasonex, being a steriod, doesn't have any antichlorenergic effects?

Do you get any side affects from taking a steroid?

Thanks
Richard.

I don't like the idea of taking a steroids long-term. They can thin the tissues and bones, and promote infection of the nasopharynx.
Nasal steroids may cause nosebleeds and nasal crusts. Chronic steroid usage can cause bone thinning, predisposition to infection, diabetes, and cataracts.
But if they are effective in the short-term, that's OK.
Good News! The great ProstaQ is BACK at last! You must try it.

My concerns as well Mark. I think I'll give Benadryl (Acrivastine) a try first.

Excellent. Always nice to read good news :-D

My own urgency & frequency problem seems to have taken a turn for the better in the last 2-3 weeks as well. The urethral burning problem, also much much better. Let's hope it lasts & whatever is working keeps working - but if things do change for the worse, I'm glad to know PT may be a viable treatment option for urinary problems.

I'm not aware of any antichlorenergic effects, nor have I read about any.

I'm surprised that I haven't had any side effects, but the doses are so low and the benefits are so great that I'm not massively concerned. I'm aware that steroids may not address the root cause though, which is why I'm so excited about the emerging link between sinusitis and fungi in some people. We have a history of fungi allergy in the family.

Good idea. I hope it works for you. It does work out a little expensive if you buy it OTC, but if it works you can ask your GP for a prescription.

I had sinusitis as well when I was younger and had an operation when I was about 14 for it. I think I was one of the lucky ones in that it worked.

Just an update to say that's I've been using Benadryl (Acrivastine) for the past week with great results. No additonal pain, no drowsiness and works a treat

Thanks again for all the advice.
