This forum is a godsend! (davyboy)

Post by davyboy »

Hello Gentleman,

First of all, I want to thank all of you for your willingness to help out (despite some of you having gone into remission). Your knowledge and your stories of hope mean so much to me.

I am 26 years old and my story is as follows and I was hoping some of you could perhaps shed some light on my situation:

I am an avid exerciser. I have been exercising very hard for roughly a year or so. I was doing a lot of interval training, lunges, jumps, squats, pushups, jogging, you name it. NOTE: I never train with weights. I train exclusively with my body weight and resistance.

A little while back, I would notice a strange tingle in my groin when I would leap up from a plank position to a squat. I thought really nothing of it, I thought perhaps it was a hernia (the doctor disconfirmed this). I also would notice the same feeling when I was doing one-armed pushups. It did go away though...

Fast forward a couple of months... I had a really crazy stressful/depressing 3 months. Girlfriend moved to a different city, I spent a lot of time sitting because I was studying for the LSAT (stressful law school exam) and keeping up with my exercise routine. Needless to say very stressful few months. Was consuming 1-2 cups of coffee a day, the occasional weekend I'd have a few beers, was having a lot of dairy too.

So I think my stressful period had something to do with the onset of symptoms (I do have a history of anxiety / panic attacks). So this is how it all began - (after a weekend of skiing) I woke up in the middle of the night with a strange discomfort / pressure in my penis when I had an erection. I woke up the next day tried to ejaculate and the more aroused I became (the closer to orgasm) the more discomfort and pressure I experienced. I went to the doctor and told me I had rolled on myself while sleeping and I had just caused some swelling and it would go away with an anti-inflammatory. Of course it didn't.

I then had my prostate checked and my doctor told me I had prostatitis (it was swollen). Prescribed Cipro, reacted adversely, so then I was on Bactrim. I hated it. I did bloodwork, a few urine tests, all confirming I had no bacteria / no STI's.

Here are some of my symptoms:
  1. Discomfort primarily when sitting on perineum (usually causes pain to shoot into my right hip)
  2. Occasional testicle pain (feels like swelling in right testicle - haven't had it for a few weeks)
  3. Golf ball feeling in rectum
  4. Right hip pain - can shoot down my quad a bit...
  5. Strange pressure / discomfort in penis - like I constantly want to flex my pelvic muscles to relieve tension
  6. Urinary frequency / dribbles / inconsistency (starts and stops)
  7. NO BURNING WHEN I PEE OR EJACULATE (Thank god!)
  8. Some discomfort after sex, like a throbbing in the prostate.
... I should note one day I was rushed to the hospital because I was having what I think was a muscle spasm (it felt like my penis and balls were being electrocuted - the doctor called it referred pain and gave me anti-inflammatory - didn't work - so I went back and got a suppository called Sandoz-Opium Belladonna which works AMAZING. Because of its opium effect it relaxes all of my muscles and the pressure disappears for a few hours. This convinces me that problem is muscular in nature.

A few other things:

Ejaculate every few days... Semen looks normal, very white.

I'm on:
  1. Broccoli treatment
  2. Quercetin
  3. Prosta Plus
  4. Vitamin B
  5. Magnesium (seems to be helping)
  6. L-Theanine
I went to a PT today to no avail. She simply showed me stretches that I already know! It seems there are no PTs in Alberta (Canada) that deal with pelvic pain.

I've ordered the book Headache in the Pelvis.

I'm off to see a urologist in 2 days.

DOES ANYONE KNOW IF STRENUOUS EXERCISE CAN CAUSE MY PELVIC FLOOR TENSION?

I would appreciate any insight fella's'. I know my situation could be a lot worse. Its manageable and I can live with it. My biggest frustration is my inability to sit. YOU GUYS RULE ! THANK YOU!

Looks like a very normal case of CPPS. Triggers and symptoms are familiar. Some comments: urologists won't be of much further help to you. Get a reliable quercetin treatment like any accredited quercetin product (free for your first bottle, see top of screen), because a test run on commercial brands of quercetin found that many contained either none or much lower amounts than claimed. Strenuous exercise can have a negative effect on hyperirritable pelvic muscles, so go easy on that until you feel better.

I don't think you realize how nice it is to have people to talk to about this.

My family and girlfriend don't understand. They are sick of hearing about this and i've only been suffering for 2 months.

It honestly nearly brings me to tears just to have someone to talk to who understands!

Thank you thank you thank you.

webslave... I will definitely order the Quercetin.

Do you think I should investigate internal massage therapy or not bother at this point?

I think my case is quite mild when compared with other men. I think it will subside eventually... the stressful period is over now and hopefully the symptoms will eventually go into remission with stretches, good diet and mild exercise?

Yes, I think that's a wise choice. Be conservative. Get the relaxation CDs (see my signature for the Amazon source), get the A HEADACHE IN THE PELVIS book, get some tranquillizers, cultivate calmness, limit tense sitting ... and any other stratagem you find on this forum .. and you could well recover without more than that!

If things don't improve, get a Theracane and carefully try internal. Or if you are well placed financially, the ultimate is to visit the Wise-Anderson Protocol clinic.

Thank you again!

I don't think my symptoms are bad enough to warrant a visit to Wise-Anderson.

I feel pathetic complaining on this forum with my mild symptoms compared to what some men go through.

Do you know if there are specific exercises which are bad for the pelvic muscles ? Squats, lunges, etc.

Yes, exercises that specifically flex the deep pelvic muscles under high load seem to exacerbate symptoms, so hold off on them until much better.

My symptoms seem to be exacerbated after a bath? Does this happen to anyone else ?

That can happen if you have an element of chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS). Baths usually help relax people. Do you have any fatigue?

Not that I'm aware of. I took a bath this morning and it seemed to have increased discomfort.

I was feeling pretty good this morning until then.

(But then again who knows - could be my breakfast, could be pushing too hard when I try to void, etc)

Its so confusing !

One occurrence of discomfort after a bath means nothing, and as you say could be related to a bowel motion, voiding etc.
