Hello -
Could anyone please point me in the direction of any information on nerve-blocks. Apparently there is a lot of research going on at UCH in London regarding nerve-blocks in the treatment of CPPS.
Many thanks...

I would also be interested in hearing more on this subject. The last time I saw my uro, she was considering a pudendal nerve block. I hesitated at the time, but I am back to see her next Monday, and I know we will discuss it again. Anybody have experience here good or bad?

Search the site for pudendal nerve block. It's been discussed many times.
I know some medics think nerve blocks are not a good idea:

I had 2 nerve blocks that were a complete disaster.
I did not experience any pain relief and it started a 6 week flare-up each time.
I would highly discourage anybody to do this barbaric and potentially dangerous procedure.

Nerve blocks
Log on to the coventry pain clinic for information. I would be most interested to know more about the research mentioned.

my only advice is to research the pudendal nerve block very carefully, and to make sure it is conducted by an expert who knows how to locate the nerve.
My twin brother got one and it set him back 8 months. Yow, It hurt him bad.
The person who gave him the block was a young person new to a hospital who admitted he really didn't know where the nerve was. Furthermore, that pair of nerves can vary in position with individual anatomy.

This is not medical advice, and I am NOT a doctor of medicine or a related field.
* Age:33 Onset: February 2004.
* 99.9% IMPROVEMENT in 2.5 Years with the first year being the really hard part
* Current Symptoms: Mild irritation of perineal muscles on occasion. Relieved for days at a time by a specific stretch (see below).
* Initial Symptoms: Terrible penile, urethral, rectal, and perineal burning/aching with addition afferent sensations.
* Current Treatments: Deep stretching of the legs and pelvis. Most effective: Deep psoas and levitar ani stretch using the first phase of the "pigeon pose" from Yoga. When a deep pulling is felt in the middle of the pelvis next to the upper rectum, symptoms are completely alleviated for several days.
* Past Treatments Hyperprotection of the perineum for 1.7 years, Walking, Rectal biofeedback, Stanford/Wise-Anderson Protocol, Conditioned deep relaxation practice, Men's Multi-Vitamin and an Extra B-complex pill, all seemed to help.

From personal experience, I believe my pain comes more from the rectus abdominus muscle or rectus nerve entrapment. The last we talked, my uro was considering a pudendal nerve block, because my pain is relieved by standing and exacerbated by sitting.
I am not convinced that it is the pudendal nerve, because as I've mentioned in other posts, I have a point about an inch or two below my belly button on the left side that really radiates pain down. This seems more like the rectus nerve. I may mention this to her when we meet Monday and see where we end up.
I am also going to ask for a script for Lyrica (pregabalin); I don't know if she'll go for that or not. I'll keep you posted if I go through with any of these blocks; I would rather try the medication first, and see what happens from there.

Thanks for the replies. It seems they either inject a steroid or botulinum. I'm not sure how this works but if it's a nerve problem, how can Botox work? I thought Botox was for muscles...
