discolored ejaculate

Post by Dman »

I have had chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome for approximately eight years, with several years of almost no discomfort while taking Cardura. Unfortunately, I started reacting to the Cardura about two years ago (pain in arms), and discontinued. Since then, I have been taking Flomax, and switched Urologists (both seem clueless, but at least the one I had admitted it, and he was the one who started the Cardura, which was a godsend for several years). My new Urologist started me on Proscar over a year ago, which seems only to have messed my ability to enjoy sex.
Recently, I have noticed that my ejaculate is a brown color, and am starting to freak out. I will be calling my Uro on Monday, but wondered if anyone had positive results with Proscar, and if I should be freaking out.

Brown ejaculate can be caused by blood in the ejaculate, which is not important in the vast majority of cases. In a small minority, it can denote prostate cancer.

Have your prostate checked by digital rectal examination (DRE), and have a PSA test too, perhaps.
Good News! The great ProstaQ is BACK at last! You must try it.

I have this occasionally but don't have prostate cancer. What causes it?

Hematospermia (the presence of blood in the seminal fluid) is poorly understood. Most commonly, it results from nonspecific inflammation of the urethra, prostate and/or seminal vesicles.

In about 50% of patients the cause of hematospermia is not clearly understood or known. Semen originates from multiple organs, including the testicles, epididymis, vas deferens, seminal vesicles, and prostate. Most of the semen comes from the seminal vesicles and prostate and it is probably from these two organs that most hematospermia cases originate.

Infections or inflammation of the organs listed above account for most of the other causes. Cancers are rarely causative and account for a very small percentage of hemospermic diagnoses.
