JFK had Prostatitis

I was watching a documentary on JFK and one of his aids mentioned Prostatitis so I looked it up and he did have it by all accounts amongst other things.

I have an interest in famous figures with pelvic pain and I think there is more than one with this that could really help funding. Of course they won't come forward for many reasons but in literature published by us if we say JFK (or a famous person) was a fellow sufferer that can catch the attention.

Just thought I'd let you know that. I think it is well known actually.

Yes, very well known and documented although did sound more like recurrent bacterial prostatitis. My personal "most admired person" who had prostatitis was the pianist Glenn Gould.

At some point the illness was described as "a mild, chronic, non-specific prostatitis." Sulfa drugs were able to suppress the symptoms. As late as May 1955 he still had "prostatitis marked by pain when urinating and ejaculating, as well as urinary tract infections

This is derived from An Unfinished Life: John F. Kennedy 1917-1963 by Dallek, Robert. My best guess is that this is simple CPPS, which was universally called an "infection" in those days.

My personal "most admired person" who had prostatitis was the pianist Glenn Gould.

Gould is an interesting man. He hated performing publicly and eventually withdrew from public performance. One can only guess whether this was related to his pelvic pain. I can imagine that sitting with every muscle in your pelvis tensed, as you do when playing the piano, was no good for him, to say nothing of the tension and stress of playing to large, paying audiences.

Gould has sometimes been called a hermit and a recluse. He was not. He chose for himself a solitary existence which kept interaction at a safe distance, showing himself primarily through his recordings, broadcasts, and writings, providing self-protection but at the same time allowing a great deal of self-revelation. As he once said. he had "opted out creatively".

I was aware that Glenn Gould had CP, but I had no idea that JFK did too. I can't believe I've been reading about CP for several years now, and this is the first I've heard of this.

My first urologist claimed that Sir. Alex Fergusson, manager of Manchester United Football Club has prostatitis.

Quite a well known figure outside of the US.
