For those of you who want to learn this essential part of meditation/relaxation which can help reduce your pelvic muscle tension, and anxiety which make your symptoms worse.......
You can order the The Relaxation and Stress Reduction Workbook (excellent tool for teaching yourself breathing or any of the relaxation techniques)
also, here is a link about it as well.

Breathing is an ESSENTIAL part of meditation or ANY relaxation technique, and considering most people breathe incorrectly(into their lungs instead of their Diaphragm/stomach), it would be very wise to learn to do this.
It's very easy to learn, and if you breathe this way while listening to a meditation CD that helps modify and relax your brainwaves further, you will get in a highly relaxed state where your body heals itself in many ways, and you become aware of how you're holding your pelvic muscle tension.
Learning to relax your pelvic muscles(and yourself overall) takes time , but if you concentrate on your breathing, this blocks out other thoughts that cause the fight or flight syndrome.
So concentrate very deeply on every element of your breathing.
For me personally, it usually takes about 10-15 min. to get into the alpha/theta brainwave state, so don't expect instant results. The key is to relax.
I do this twice a day, when I wake up in the morning, and when I get home from work, for 20 minutes each, and am having very good results.

I'd like to add to jd's post by saying that I've suffered from anxiety before and chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome brought on a bout of symptoms (which for me are the 'lump in throat' feelings and general flu like symptoms). Since doing Diaphragmatic breathing almost all of my anxiety symptoms have gone.
I do it twice a day, half hour each time, in conjunction with the Theta Meditation System CD's.
Even though my wife doesn't suffer from chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome or anxiety she's also started doing breathing exercises and listening to the CD's and it's already make a big difference to her well being (which is the usual life stresses + looking after me!).
Whilst chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome has been horrendous, I do feel that I'm going to come out the other side in much better shape - both mentally and physically than I did prior to the onset of the condition.

Thats great to hear what you're doing
I think it's VERY important to just stay disciplined with it and you will have better results as time goes by.....it's not an insta-cure like people expect in this day and age, but you're allowing your body to put itself in peak healing condition where you're no longer in that fight or flight mode thats so devastating over time
I started doing meditation early this year around February, and I did it for about 3 or 4 months with really good results, at the end of 4 months I was DEFINITELY improved overall....I still had some flares and all (I used to have pain and frequency, but after a few months of meditation I only had frequency) but the flares were much more minor, when I wasn't in a flare I was mostly symptom free.
Well after I became better I got cocky, started partying again, stopped eating a healthy diet, I got where I did my meditation just once a day instead of twice, and then I had days of not doing it at all.....after about a month of living that way, my frequency went WAY back up. This was in late July early August
Since early August I've become VERY disciplined again, meditation twice a day every day. After about 6 or 8 weeks my frequency started going down again, and for the last 2 or 3 weeks its been the best it's been.
Seeing this sort of improvement, I truly think it's going to take about a year or 2 to truly beat it this way......it's a very incremental improvement but it DOES work, your brain has SOOOOOO much power over your body, and the effects of stress are unbelievably powerful, there are new articles coming out about the negative effects of stress every day.
Check this study out below, some of the WORST stress doesn't even show any overt symptoms, but increases your chances of a heart attack by 6 (!!!) times

I think everyone should be doing meditation or some form of relaxation, 8 hours of sleep is no longer able to resolve the effects of stress in the majority of people
Also, I think diet is VERY important in this, the power of food far exceeds most medicines, so I think its critical to eat a lot of vegetables and little processed foods and sugar(not easy I know). Eating a healthy diet is physically good for you, but also makes you feel emotionally better as well
