I thought I'd give you guys a 3 month update on how the Elmiron is working. I'm currently having a flair-up, but besides this week I have noticed a gradual reduction in pain since I've been on the Elmiron. I also started Elavil (50Mg) at the same time, so perhaps a combination of the two is what's really helping me. I'm actually contemplating adding a long acting NSAID like Vioxx to the mix as well. I've got some arthritis type symptoms like lower back pain and a few swollen joints that might be helped as well.
I haven't visited this site in a while and I noticed there are a few more supplements listed. Should I be trying this Prostaprotek stuff, or does it have the same action as the Elmiron I'm already taking?

Elmiron Update at six months
It's now been six months since I started the Elmiron/Amitrip regiment. Overall, I am much better than I was when I started this six months ago. A few weeks back I made a decision to attempt to go off of the Amitrip since I have gained significant weight(25lbs) over the last 6 months. I am currently down to 12mg a day and my syptoms the testicular pain is starting to get noticable again. I am unsure as to whether the reduction in amtrip is to blame as of yet. I have had a cold for the past two weeks and have been taking decongestants...which I know are not good for people with CPPS. So, maybe it's just that. My current plan is to stay at 12mg's a day for the next week while I stop taking the decongestant. If a week goes by and the symptoms are still there, I will go back up to 50MG of amitrip.
My "gut" feeling at this point is that the amitrip is the drug that is helping me and not the Elmiron. Perhaps it really is a combination of the two that are helping me, but from what I've read on here about Elmiron I tend to doubt this drug is doing anything for me.
I am going to talk to my doctor in a few weeks about keeping me on amitrip and perhaps giving me Welbutrin in addition to try and counteract the weight gain...been on it before and it really helped bring my weight down and increase my energy.
Just thought I'd keep you guys in the know. If you have any suggestions for me, pass them along.
Thx and good health to all!
