How many more dollars is the NIH/NIDDK going to squander on this?
In the lastest study, a complete debacle IMO, Krieger bravely went forth to find (without controls) that real-time PCR detects bacterial traces in 26% of men with CP/CPPS (which is virtually exactly what is found in controls in other studies), and of that 26%, less than half (or ~10% of the men studied) had traces of E. coli, a bug normally found in the gut. (One wonders how many of these men had recently had anal inercourse with their wives or partners.)
Instead of seeing these inconclusive results as a good reason to stop wasting our research money on this avenue of research, the authors find this highly promising and cause for lots of further funding and research
