Pelvic nerves, hernias and all things CPPS related...

Post by extreme3 »

Hi all -

Haven't been on this board in a long time but was able to overcome a lengthy ordeal with CPPS a while back through stress relief and pelvic stretches. I have to say this forum was key to my eventual recovery.

For those that have obvious physical issues causing the pelvic pain... I was diagnosed with bilateral inguinal hernia a year or so back and had surgery to repair them. All was good for about a year and then some hernia like pain cropped up in my left side. My first inclination was a recurrence but multiple docs cannot confirm and an MRI reveals no recurrence. Pretty crazy because it feels like hernia pain...kind of moves around in the groin, even to the top of the inner leg and intensity fluctuates randomly. Also, the MRI revealed a small lesion close to the pain area as an incidental finding. Probably a red herring but will get it checked out.

I noticed that something as simple as rigid pants (e.g. thick jeans) irritating the area can incite the nerves and cause pain. I can also attest that hot baths seem to temporarily alleviate the pain as well. I throw in Epsom salt for good measure but won't vouch for that just having an impact just yet. I don't believe the ibuprofen does much but it might have a placebo effect. I've heard treatments like nerve ablation might be helpful but that won't address root cause.

Thought I would share my story with the rest of you to see if anyone had similar issues. Thanks all for your collective support.

Could be post herniorraphy pain syndrome, although presentation is not typical. May resolve with time. Could also be an adhesion, common after surgery, and can cause pain. Google "hernia mesh adhesion" for another possibility.

Thanks webslave for the response. My doc has suggested it could be nerve entrapment but there are so many confounding observations (including a possible false positive in the MRI) it could be really hard to pinpoint the root cause. I'm afraid the medical knowledge around this perplexing area is supremely beyond most physicians experience and education.

Hopefully some conservative treatments for pain and time will help out here. Will keep you posted. Thanks again.
