I wanted to say thank you to this forum and to share my story in case it can help the treatment of others.
I am now 39 years old, at the age of 19 I had a cyst on my prostate, this was accompanied by typical prostatitis style symptoms. I had the cyst removed but my symptoms persisted.
This left me in a dark place, with my teenage years and relationships in tatters for years.
Oddly the best day of my life was having my wisdom teeth out, this involved having a large does of Diazepam as a local anaesthetic. The next day I was free of pain all day for the first day in 6 years!, I read up of the effects of Diazepam and discovered it had powerful muscle relaxation effects.
I had been reading the great "a Headache in the Pelvis" book (thanks to this forum). The book helped me understand the root cause of my issue and helped me realise how I was clenching my pelvic muscles all the time. It was tough to relax as I felt I would pee myself, however over time I realised I could relax more.
I had some trigger point physio however this only mildly removed my symptoms. I started a new regime of stretches (splits on my knees) and exercise. I also convinced a doctor to prescribe me diazepam for 6 months. Gradually my symptoms resolved and after about 6 months I was pain free and able to come off the diazepam.
Over the next 14 years (bar 1 flare up for 6 months after putting on weight and clenching to hide my belly) I have been completely pain free.
