Re: Duloxetine or Amitriptyline - urine retention ?
Duloxetine can cause a mild retention:
Medications with anticholinergic properties, such as tricyclic antidepressants (like amitriptyline), can cause urinary retention by decreasing bladder detrusor muscle contraction.
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC427601/In conclusion, the risk that duloxetine will cause urinary retention seems limited. However, some patients may experience weak obstructive voiding symptoms most likely caused by peripheral adrenergic activity affecting the smooth urethral muscle or modifying the unique bladder-urethra synergy.

Re: Duloxetine or Amitriptyline - urine retention ?
Thanks Webslave, I might drop the Amitriptyline and just stick with the duloxetine for now (taking 30mg of Duloxetine in the morning and 10 mg of Amitriptyline at night). I am peeing but its weak and urinating less but I am urinating. Dr did say this could be an initial side effect but would pass.
