CPPS/Tinnitus
So I've been hearing a ringing in my ear once a day for about 5 seconds. This has happened for about a week. Slight pain in right ear. I go to an Ent and they perform tests and no concerns. Yes I've been stressed and ya I have CPPS but I feel it's gotten better. Well of course after the test, this evening after feeling great I started getting the ringing and it was constant. Feels almost like when you can tell a TV is turned on in a room. I felt like I was going crazy because I just felt more myself for first time in awhile. Now I might have another long term issue. I really hope it's temporary based on stress. Medication I'm on is 20mg Cymbalta and 4mg tinazidine. I might switch to another SSRI if this persists. Any thoughts or suggestions on this crazy and wild ride we are all on? Anyone develop this while battling CPPS? What would be a good way to relax? All suggestions are welcome.
Age: 43 | Onset Age: 43 | Symptoms: burning in tip of penis/urethra has mostly faded; mild pain in right testicle; main pain comes from anterior levator ani spasm | Helped By: hot baths, healing time days after PT, klonopin .25-.5mg, meditation (trying to learn) |Taking: 100mg zoloft (recent onset of tinnitus), Omega-3s, VSL3 Probiotic, Q-Rol, Zyflamend, Chelated Magnesium 500Mg | Worsened By: anxiety, depression, thinking about it too much | Other comments: sitting and pireneal and most penis pain/burning is gone from PT but just developed pain after ejaculation coming from levator; some pain from sitting too long depends on spasm; listening to Jon Kabat Zinn helps; need to de-stress my life; my PT says I'm at rock bottom and it's a long journey so I try to tell myself to be realistic about how long it will take and that this takes time so I try not to let it affect my social life

Re: CPPS/Tinnitus
Google 'cymbalta and tinnitus' and 'tizanidine and tinnitus.'
FYI tinnitus is classed as an uncommon side effect of cymbalta (0.1% to 1% of patients), and not associated with tizanidine.
Tinnitus is a consequence of quite a few antibiotics, if you've had a lot of them...

Re: CPPS/Tinnitus
When I was "floxed" (or "floxxed") years ago from a 10 day course of Levaquin I had bad tinnitus for a long while. It was the least of my worries, though - since I was also suffering widespread tendonosis along with a long list of other issues. After a few years, it all had passed.
Have you taken any fluoroquinolone antibiotics recently?
Edit: don't freak out if you have... if you haven't experienced any tendon pain yet, you're almost certainly in the clear in that respect. It tends to come on during antibiotic treatment.

I am stopping the Cymbalta just in case. I only took 5 days worth at 20mg. Right now I just have a hissing sound. Hopefully it's temporary based on stress or jaw clenching.

Re: CPPS/Tinnitus
I have not been on any antibiotics lately. I had an endoscopy lately and had general anesthesia. My ears and temples hurt a bit, and could be stress related or picking up some allergies. I've had allergies before and no issues like this. CPPS has really tested my stress levels.

Re: CPPS/Tinnitus
Well, could be related to the meds, could be stress, or it could just be a fluke. I think it's important to keep in mind that sometimes bodies do weird, temporary things.
At any rate, when I had tinnitus for a year+, I found that it easy to cope with if I kept music/tv/youtube/etc on. It was also easy to ignore it when I was conversing with people, etc. Basically, sitting in silence was always uncomfortable.
This maneuver seems like a pretty low-risk and quick thing to try. I remember trying it and it helping, albeit temporarily.

Re: CPPS/Tinnitus
I have permanent tinnitus in one ear. It was driving me mad until I simply decided to ignore it. As soon as I did that, it stopped bothering me and now I have to concentrate to hear it.

Re: CPPS/Tinnitus
CPPS is BECAUSE OF your stress levels.
Age: 49| Onset Age: 47| Symptoms: Pain locations: Intermittent left and right front pelvic floor lateral to urethra; occasionally left side tailbone pain (rarer); left spermatic chord pain (become rare); Post BM-Pain helped by distraction during Bowel Movement.| Current meds: None. Helped by: deep breathing, mediation, hiking, distractions, exercise. Approximately 98% improved, varying depending on stress levels.

Re: CPPS/Tinnitus
You are right! It's been a challenge trying to bring down my stress levels. I'm trying meditation and CBT. This tinnitus is now going to challenge me as well. This is all stress related for sure.
I might have to seek out an anti depressant reluctantly. I had a dizzy spell this am and it has to be my anxiety.

Re: CPPS/Tinnitus
Dizzyness and ear pain, allergies - I'm wondering if you may have a subtle ear or sinus infection. I used to get those ALL THE TIME as a kid. Would explain all those symptoms. They don't often require treatment - but can be incredibly annoying. Mine were often triggered by allergies - which is also pretty common.
Anyway, hope you feel better soon.

I was feeling a bit of pain in my right ear before I went to the ENT but they said everything was fine. Maybe pain from clenching my jaw. I did however have some sniffles from allergies. Might take the Flonase. The klonopin seems to have helped with the dizziness. Going to eat and stay hydrated. Let's see what happens when it wears off. Btw I need to try my new pelvic wand and hit the anterior levator if possible.
Btw worrying about tinnitus has taken my focus away from this pain. I swear I have felt it a bit but my mind is not focusing on it or the pain at all. Amazing how the brain prioritizes things!

Re: CPPS/Tinnitus
I've had tinnitus and actually developed a vestibular disorder (balance disorder). I swear it was something I was taking for the prostatitis that caused all this. I know viagra, cialis, staxyn drugs all have side effects effecting the ears. Whenever I would take those my ears would be ringing the next day. I did also consume alcohol in mass quantities sometimes while taking these and sometimes I would have a lot of alcohol with alfusozin. Not sure if those caused enough lowering of the blood pressure to my ear but that's my best guess of what caused this for me. For a time also I was prescribed very high NSAIDS (like 800 mg of ibuprofen 3 times a day). I know one of these probably caused it but most of all the docs I talk to (ENTs and Uros) all dismiss the Rx idea. I wonder why.
Age: 25 | Onset Age: 21 | Symptoms: Pain in perineum area, bad ED, slower stream, loss of libido, | Helped By: Uroxatral, Heavy Doses of NSAIDs, Really Hot Baths/Sauna | Worsened By: Sex, Masturbation, Spicy Foods, biking, certain exercises, sudafed| Other comments: Mine started in a time after copious amounts of sex, I also held in ejaculation for a long long time after a sex break which may have contributed. Also went from protected to unprotected sex around this same time, but all tests show no bacteria. I do not have urgency issues.

Re: CPPS/Tinnitus
Sorry to hear HateCPPS....I have read that NSAIDs and aspirin can raise the sound level on 'T', but also many meds can be ototoxic and cause it. Not sure why ENTs dismiss the idea/reason, when there are plenty of meds that can cause T. I'm only a month in with it so it may or may not go away. Just have to control my stress and anxiety levels which we all need to do for CPPS anyway.

Re: CPPS/Tinnitus
I had pretty bad pelvic pain for about a year and half and what really helped resolve it was daily 35 minutes meditation. Strictly every day. (Plus the stretches, internal external massage, and reduction of spicy/meaty food). But I'm totally convinced that meditation and reduction of anxiety is the key to all of this shit. I do know that as soon as I have some anxiety pelvic pain symptoms float right back up. I really took the initiative on daily meditation after reading Teach Us to Sit Still
https://www.amazon.com/Teach-Us-Sit-Sti ... 1609614488
Now unfortunately just as I got over the pelvic pain and have that under control, I have tinnitus all of a sudden. Coincidence? I think not. Tinnitus is also directly related to anxiety. Of course I'm also a music freak who has listened to loud music my whole life with headphones and played loud guitar, but I'm convinced that I'm experiencing tinnitus because I am an anxious person. I run a business and live abroad and have to deal with all kinds of stressful situations. Since I started doing vipassana meditation consistently everyday, the pelvic pain has just gone away, and I hope it will do the same for tinnitus. Though from what I hear if the T is chronic it never really goes away but at least you can reduce it so the brain doesn't really notice it or pay attention.
So now I have TWO reasons to do daily meditation, and also just generally chill the fuck out. The high stress and high anxiety lifestyles some of us lead really take a toll on the body and I think these conditions are our bodies telling us to chill out. I tell my wife to constantly remind me to tone it down if she hears me start raising my voice over some business concern, or getting worked up about something. Mind over body matters and we need to be calm. For meditation I super highly recommend Sam Harris new Waking Up app if you're new to meditation and want to get started with it. I've had prior experience but he has a way of making in comfortable doing it daily without all the spiritual BS.

I also "cured" my CPPS and was hit with ear ringing right after. I only hear mine though when its really calm and no external sounds and I have the feeling its more in my brain than in my ears. Its definitely from stress&anxiety in my case. Hopefully it can go away.
Age: 32| Onset Age: 30 | Symptoms: “Cured“ now, no symptoms.
