As I mentioned earlier my symptoms always come with pain in my right hip. I do have FAP and tears in my tendons in that area. Saw a doctor specialist in cortisone injection and he recommended one injection in hip under ultrasound. He said that if this relieves pelvic pain, then the origin of the problem is in the hip.
This is scheduled for tomorrow and I can cancel. I see side effects and so on, scares me.
Two questions
- What is the incidence of CPPS and hip pain? Am I one of very few or is it common.
- related: if there are any experiences out there in the CPPS community? (searched forum did not find much)
Doctor said that the duration of inflammation does not matter (whether it has been a week or 10 years). He said he has seen many many cases where one shot can get rid of inflammation forever. Mentioned that CPPS is rare, but he has seen cases where this has helped conditions in the pelvis. I don't think one injection could resolve my problems, sounds too good to be true. I think it could only tell me whether it indeed comes from the hip. If it does, I am not sure what to do about since I don't want to take cortisone injections on a regular basis, nor do I want a surgery on my hip .... he thinks we should give it one shot, literally.
Please please share your thoughts. I am pretty much scared of side effects (thinning of skin, weakening of tendons, and so on). Online is not clear about dosage for these side effects to kick in. Dr says that one shot would not have any noticeable side effect. But he is an injection specialist, clearly biased...

Hello ppp
if you have doubts, it can't hurt to wait and do some further research and think about it (nothing lost).; possibly get another opinion for peace of mind.
I am not an expert in joint steroid injections or CPPS, though I am a medical practitioner and in general my experience is that steroid injections (anywhere) are usually a temporary measure at best and are rarely curative. Having said that, one injection usually does not cause too much in the way of lasting or serious side effects as long as performed by someone experienced and competent.
Its interesting you mention hip pain... I get this too (and lower lumbar pain) when my CPPS flares and it subsides when the flare settles. I am sure they are related

Re: cortisone injection: urgent question
One injection is not too bad, may be diagnostic, but pain in hip can be caused by trigger points in gluteus, so ....
Good News! The great ProstaQ is BACK at last! You must try it.

Re: cortisone injection: urgent question
How did it go ppp? I have hip bursitis on both sides and developed some sciatica issues since my onset of CPPS. I think this was from my circuit training as opposed to CPPS, but since I can't seem to shake it I wonder if it's now set in for good. I know I have to stretch after working out and for CPPS so the benefit is if helps with the bursitis and sciatica. I did take prednisone once and it helped relieve me of all symptoms! But I know that's only temporary. Let me know how it goes as I'd like to consider this myself.
Age: 43 | Onset Age: 43 | Symptoms: burning in tip of penis/urethra has mostly faded; mild pain in right testicle; main pain comes from anterior levator ani spasm | Helped By: hot baths, healing time days after PT, klonopin .25-.5mg, meditation (trying to learn) |Taking: 100mg zoloft (recent onset of tinnitus), Omega-3s, VSL3 Probiotic, Q-Rol, Zyflamend, Chelated Magnesium 500Mg | Worsened By: anxiety, depression, thinking about it too much | Other comments: sitting and pireneal and most penis pain/burning is gone from PT but just developed pain after ejaculation coming from levator; some pain from sitting too long depends on spasm; listening to Jon Kabat Zinn helps; need to de-stress my life; my PT says I'm at rock bottom and it's a long journey so I try to tell myself to be realistic about how long it will take and that this takes time so I try not to let it affect my social life
