Is internal dry needling safe? did it help anyone?
Dry needling on external muscles has helped a bit. I go to Jan Dummerhold's clinic, he seems to be one of the experts in the field. I have been working on the big muscles, but I have mixed experience, external muscles do get less tense/trigger points less pronounced but only internal massage by me with a Theracane has helped with that headache in the pelvis, the most bothersome aspect (inserted gently but for about 10-15 mins until the trigger point above my prostate softens).
Since the current strategy has not really resolved my issues, they suggested considering internal needling. That's where I have an obvious TPs.
I was told it is safe because the needle is inserted precisely where his finger is, right at the TP. I was told it is very safe, no major nerves there, and even if they hit a nerve the needle is too thin to make any damage. One of his associates hit some nerves in the past by mistake in the back of my legs, it hurt but recovered with no long term impact.

Internal Dry Needling safe?
Age: 33| Onset Age: 24 | Symptoms: dull ache in pelvic area, tension, feeling the need to urinate, frequency, dribbling after urination, ED symptoms started 6 moths after the onset wrecking my life since, abdominal tension, tension in my thighs. | Helped By: stretching/massage , benzos | Worsened By: Mainly sex, but also sitting and anxiety| Other comments: I have seen periods of substantially less flare-ups, but now I am at a steady state where it comes back almost always after sex.

Re: Internal Dry Needling safe?
Hey PPP, I have almost the exact same symptoms as you. If I have sex right after my symptoms flareup with tightness, pain and pressure in my left abdomen along with back pain and testicular pain. Even when I sit for long for a good 5 min I feel my symptoms come up.
Question, how long have you gone without sex? How frequent are you having sex? Right now I have gone 1 week so far without it and my symptoms are dying down. Along with the use of the therawand and Theracane is helping.
I did one session of dry needling and it was a pretty powerful experience in which it kinda freaked me out because of the electrical and jolting sensations. I am considering it again. I'm interested to know as well about internal needling if there is good results or safe?

I have had dry needling of e.g. Piriformis and glutes, but no substantial relief. I was told that dry needling of pubococcygeus and bulbospongiosus is basically possible, but too risky and my PT did not feel comfortable to do it. Anyway my main troublesome trigger points are deep inside.

No it is not the same, although dry needling is sometimes called "western acupuncture". Dry needling is more based upon the stimulation of trigger point and acupuncture is more working with "energetic levels" etc. Though, some sufferer reported improvement after acupuncture.

Re: Internal Dry Needling safe?
I know nothing about internal dry needling (DN). Dry needling seems to be effective. It is apparently similar to acupuncture.
I can't immediately find any studies on internal DN, but if done intrarectally I'd be very worried about introducing infection.

Good News! The great ProstaQ is BACK at last! You must try it.
