Never thought I'd be back

Post by scotcan »

About 10 years ago I started getting pain and went through the same process as everyone on here. Doctors, Urologists, tests, scans.....Diagnosis - Prostatitis. I eventually found a great PT and resolved 95% of the pain, 3 years after onset.

Over time I basically stopped stretching, looking for trigger points and relaxing and late last year it came back with a vengeance! I had more symptoms and they were more severe. Previously I had chronic pain in my testicle but now I had urinary urge/frequency and pain shooting into my penis/urethra, I spent Christmas day locked in the bathroom in tears! I've been working on things since then, getting back into a program, and things have improved. I no longer have urinary urge/frequency and the penis/urethra pain has subsided greatly. I still get dull aches in my groin/testicles and get burning/stinging in the urethra and meatus on the head of my penis.

Unfortunately the PT I went to has relocated and the one I now see doesn't seem very good. I'm thinking of changing PT's but was wondering what other people have done to alleviate burning/stinging in penis/urethra?
Age: 43 | Onset Age: 33 | Symptoms: Burning in urethra and tip of penis at meatus. Lower back pain and occasional dull ache in groin & testicles. Pain in coccyx and left side buttock when sitting | Medication: Quercetin 1000mg, Omega 3, Turmeric 1500mg, Shilajit Extract 400mg, Ashwagandha 920mg, Glucosamine/Condroitin | Helped By: stretching, rest, light exercise, sitz baths | Worsened By: sitting for long periods of time, driving, stressful situations | Comments: I'm 90% better and don't experience much burning anymore, but get the occasional flare. My main problem now is the sitting pain, which can be quite debilitating at times. I'm sure it's something to do with the exercises & stretching I've been doing as I didn't have this problem a year ago!

That particular pain is often linked to trigger points in the anterior levator ani insertions area. Also prostate irritation, for which I recommend quercetin (works for ~70% of men), best brand is any accredited quercetin product (guaranteed amounts of Q).
Good News! The great ProstaQ is BACK at last! You must try it.

You might want to get checked over by a Uro for BPH as that's what's causing my issues this time.
Age 56: Onset 2006 and bouts on and off since then. See posts for details.

I get the same burning in the urethra. I ordered that any accredited quercetin product and I'm currently trying the broccoli diet. I think most of my pain stems from sitting all day.

Did you see a urologist for any possible infection? Could be a form of acute prostatitis
Onset Age: 23 , Current Age: 24 Symptoms: Pain in butt/ prostate area, buttocks when sitting for long, pain during sex - especially erections were very painful... pain moved slowly to the left side after reading about the PNE bullcrap. Helped By: Relaxation, massage (temporary relief), the real difference made for me understanding that this is induced by the Brain/Central nervous system as tension, therefore addressing the tension psychologically, not physically. During flare ups I use a strong dose of tramadol - 100mg extended release, works magic for me. If your symptoms improve when distracted or during vacations and stress worsens your symptoms I urge you to:
* Read John Sarno's books
* Read Ezer's story on this site.
* Explore the TMSwiki site and read every single success story there. (even the non CPPS)
* Pay a special attention to Alan Gordon's posts.
* Read Clair Weeks book Hope and help for your nerves (apply the concepts to CPPS).
Current status: more or less cured if stressful events and emotional conflicts did not flare up my symptoms. This does not affect my life in any aspect anymore, because I dont allow it to.

Acute prostatitis is a medical emergency. This case has nothing to do with acute prostatitis.

Wouldnt harm to get a check for infection and yeah the chances are low to be acute prostatitis as he'd most likely have high temperatures/ chills.. which he did not mention.. but I would really pay the uro a visit considering it hit him quickly and with rather severe symptoms which he did not have before. A kidney stone can mimic those symptoms as well.

Having had 2 kidney stones, I disagree.

I passed one 3 weeks ago, let me tell u the symptoms I had:
Flank pain radiating from my left kidney down the ureter to bladder, pissing like crazy, prostate/rectum pain (probably due to angry nerves from CPPS), penis pain - especially the tip (on the left side also) and left testicle. Feels like a hot wire is put in your penis up to you kidney. Those subside immediately once the stone is gone. But imagine the case when it's stuck in your ureter for months.. I am pretty sure this started my CPPS.

So the OP should go make sure everything structural is ruled out and then consider CPPS, especially that his symptoms hit him quickly and completely differently than before.

Of course most likely its another bout of CPPS which tends to return for some people even after years of remission but still ruling out any serious structural should be the number one priority before going the down the CPPS path.

Flank pain is the #1 thing with kidney stones. The Mayo clinic lists the typical symptoms:
http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-cond ... n-20024829

Scotcan's history of CPPS and now this latest episode of waxing and waning pain denotes a flare, not acute prostatitis or kidney stones.

Sorry I've not replied sooner, been busy the last few days.

I have an appointment with a Urologist next week and will go through things with him then. I did go to see my family doctor who did a prostate exam, 2 urine samples and sent me for an abdominal ultrasound and intrarectal prostate ultrasound. The urine samples came back clear for infection but with small traces of blood (microscopic hematuria). This was no surprise as I have had blood in my urine for 4 or 5 years now. I got a complete workup about 3 years ago (CT, cystoscopy, urine, blood etc) but they found nothing - Only complex kidney cysts and a very small right kidney stone (Urologist said it was too small to cause the bleeding)

The ultrasound I got recently found the prostate was normal and said I may have a kidney stone in my left kidney this time. They also said I had a gallbladder stone, but nothing that would cause the symptoms I have been experiencing - Except "Chronic non-bacterial prostatitis"

My symptoms are much better than they were 6 weeks ago, and I would put that down to getting back on the program my old PT put me on years ago. Lots of stretching, relaxing (When I can), finding muscle trigger points and light exercise.

This just highlights the dangers of falling back into old routines and not looking after yourself. Once you get better you have to keep it going!

I saw the urologist today and he said he thought it was bacterial prostatitis! I told him I did 2 urine samples that were both clean and he said it probably wouldn't show up in a urine sample. He gave me 30 days of ciprofloxacin, despite me already being on 10 days of the same drug with no improvement. He said it takes a long time to get the infection out.

I have serious doubts about this course of action but I'm going to complete the course because when he did a prostate exam and pressed on it, I immediately got a burning feeling in my urethra and felt like I had leaked pee (I hadn't). I thought it was kind of weird he replicated my symptoms by pressing on the prostate.

Anyway he's going to do a cystoscopy to check the urethra and bladder and we'll see how it feels in a month

Ciprofloxacin is an extremely dangerous atb man, google the horror stories about it, many people came crying on the other prostatitis forum that it destroyed their life and that prostatitis compared to the side effects of Cipro was nothing.. I'd at least ask for a different atb, though if my cultures were negative I would not touch any atb...

I'm not entirely comfortable with the medication but want to rule everything out. I'm pretty sure that in a month, if I'm not better, he's going to say I have non-bacterial prostatitis and send me on my way!

The one nagging doubt I have is that he replicated my symptoms by pressing on the prostate. Is this a coincidence? I had a female PT look for internal trigger points and couldn't find any, and it's the first time anyone has ever been able to replicate my symptoms.
