Experiment for Flare Up Prevention

Post by MajorSky1 »

As I've mentioned before, I often (but on always) have post BM pelvic floor pain. The front half of the anorectal area, slightly superior of the sphincter muscles and lateral of my urethra starts to ramp up into pain anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes after a bowel movement. It's one of those things where I'll be fine for a few weeks with minimal or no pain, but then, whether it be from outside stress or whatever, it will start up again and lasts for one to three weeks.

I thought of a new experiment to try in order to prevent this post bm flare. Instead of sitting on the pot and concentrating on relaxing, or even letting one thought of the possibility of a pain flare coming after, I was thinking of trying something new to better distract my mind from even going to thoughts of the possibility of pain.

I'm heading out to go by a sudoku book. The goal is to do some puzzles while being occupied instead of sitting there thinking and having fear of a possible pain flare afterward. Maybe I'll buy a crossword book too.

Seems silly, but hey, whatever works.

I'll keep you posted on how it goes. ;)

Combine with squatting when defecating. Most people in the world do ... much more natural position.

Yep, I do that. I have a self-made squattie pottie that I use.

So, I'll be darned! The sudoku puzzle WORKED! I had barely any flare up at all, just a very tiny twinge that faded quickly. I sat down and started the puzzle, and continued it for a while after at a different location. Can't say I had the same success with the puzzle itself. I suck at sudoku. But looks like I'll be getting practice.

Day 5 of distraction sudoku. It's working wonderfully. Just keeping my brain occupied with a purpose during the bowel movement and for 10 or 15 minutes after has reduced the post BM pain flaring by approximately 80%. Very satisfied with the results!

Starting to lose track of days. But yesterday, I grabbed a new book that I bought and did some reading while taking care of business, and had NO pain. In fact, afterward, I felt that good feeling of relief that you're supposed to have after a BM. This method is working impressively well.
