I'm 32 and started experiencing urgency and frequency symptoms about 2 months ago. I got my prostate checked and both my regular doc and uro said it was enlarged.
About a month ago I had a Cystoscopy and found that it was indeed a swollen prostate that is causing my urinary symptoms. That urologist recommended TURP right away, which caused me to get another uro that I will see this Monday.
They put me on cialis and that seemed to really help my symptoms but then had another flare up of the prostate itself (I had the doc check and he said it was huge) and so went on some antibiotics and Flomax. The Flomax helps me be not so miserable, but I'm still urinating every hour. Thankfully I can sleep through the night with only getting up once.
I do have celiac disease and have Generalized Anxiety Disorder. I also was taking benadryl every night for over a year, which someone mentioned that this can cause a prostate flare up (not sure if that's true).
My first question is: Can anxiety cause an enlarged prostate? I do experience pain symptoms, but only when I hold my urine for too long.
Thanks so much in advance and forgive my ignorance.

Looks like they think you have BPH, which is rare in men under 30 and unusual for men in their 30s. Early age of onset is a marker for hereditary disease, in other words it may run in your family.
No, general speaking, unless it's CPPS, in which case although the prostate is generally small and tender, it may become boggy and enlarged in some men. If your prostate is firm and enlarged, and not tender, that's BPH.Can anxiety cause an enlarged prostate?

Hey discodan,
sorry to hear about your problematic prostate. But at least you have a diagnostic find! I have yet, after years of pain, to get a clear diagnosis.
I also suffer from BPH-like symptoms.
Good luck!

Fine at night, but not during the day
I started experiencing urinary urgency about 3 months ago. At first it was bad at night and even worse during the day.
Now I can sleep through the night, only having to get up once. However I'm still having to go at least every hour.
This is contradictory right?

Not necessarily. Our body is designed to not wake up at night to urinate. So even having to get up once is a symptom if it's a regular thing.
I wake up twice every night, like clockwork, at 2:30am and 5:00 am. Every single night. If I sleep in I also wake up at 7:30...
Maybe your meds are helping?

Re: New and would like some questions answered
I went a got a second opinion from another Urologist and he said after he performed a cystoscopy and said that my other doctor was wrong about having an enlarged prostate. He said it was an overactive bladder, although I'm doubtful of that. But I'm really happy that I didn't go through the prostate surgery that he wanted to do.
I notice when I take Benedryl for sleep it gets much worse and the more I worry about the urgency the worse it gets. When it gets bad, it starts with urinary symptoms and then turns into pelvic pain after about of week of urinary symptoms.
