Inguinal hernia surgery....

Wanted to pass along my experience with CPPS after laproscopic inguinal hernia surgery. My symptoms had been more or less manageable for the last few years, though never out of sight. Fast forward to August, 2014 I noticed a lump develop to the right of my pubic bone. See the doc, and an inguinal hernia was diagnosed. Over the next month it grew to a bulging 4" long, and became painful, so I elected to have surgery. It's been a month since surgery, and my pelvic pain is not only back with a vengeance, but worse than ever with new disturbing symptoms. My anal/rectal area is now cramping (never did prior with CPPS), my perineal burning is ramped up, and worst of all, when I ejaculated (just prior) I had sharp knife-like pains on both sides of pubic area, and a sharp spasm in my rectum. What a joy. My guess is the staples used to fix the mesh to hold the hernia have reignited the pain cycle. Will be giving it some time to see if symptoms calm, but if not, I see no other route than to remove the mesh/staples and try an approach without. Makes a pretty good case for pelvic floor muscles being the culprit, if anyone, after weighing all sides, hadn't come to this conclusion yet. Any thoughts on my experience and where I might go from here to arrest pain would be muuuch appreciated.

Leave it 6 months and re-assess. Pain windup may have subsided by then.

Intractable pain now with nerve firing bringing me to my knees. Can't wear pants. Meeting with another surgeon tomorrow to plan for removal of source. Interesting a patient with long history of CPPS would react so atypically to this surgery given the abdominal area refers so much in this condition.

Have you tried heat and cold? I had a kidney stone recently and the only thing that relieved the pain was heating pads

If that does not help, try ice (this link is about ice packs on the spine, but the same thing applies if you use it on the lower abdomen).

Had surgeon look at it today. Staples caught nerves on both sides. He injected novocaine in both sides and nerve firing pain vanished. Had read about this type of response to hernia surgery, but never had a patient with it (and he's been around...did my father's gallbladder surgery 20 years ago). Asked about my history of pelvic pain he read up on in my charts, and speculates I have extra neural sensitivity in abdominal/pelvic floor area. Will do steroid injections next, then address nerve issue directly if necessary. Thanks for your advice. Will be adding ice/heat to regimen.

Had emergency surgery yesterday to remove two offending tacks an inch above pubic bone and 3 inches to right and left that were entangled in nerves. Was having all sorts of additional pelvic floor symptoms before they were removed, specifically rectal cramps and shooting pain into right testicle. All gone today, though it's early, am hopeful problem is taken care of.
