Massive Side Effects occur, not to be lightly embarked upon

Post by webslave »

In approaching the antibiotic option, remember that no antibiotic is free of complications. For example, in the authors' institution, a patient has undergone a liver and renal transplant in response to a severe reaction to trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole (Bactrim), which had been prescribed as a 1-month course of therapy for chronic prostatitis (with a sterile urine culture) that subsequently was shown to be the result of a missed diagnosis of bladder neck contracture. An attitude that any treatment "can't hurt" serves patients poorly.

Weslave, that was one of the best reviews of chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome that I have ever read. The author really knows this condition better than any of the doctors I have spoken with and understands the psychological impact on the patient. This report should be listed on the main website. Thanks so much.
