Practising Mindfulness

Post by davyboy »

Hi All,

I realize that I should be posting this in my own personal thread, but I thought this could be very helpful to everyone here. Had I known these techniques a few years ago when I was in a bad place, I potentially could have avoided CPPS all together.

For years I've tried to get into meditation, but I just never really was able to do it. I'd buy books and read online or download podcasts but nothing really provided me with something convenient enough to follow through or commit to it. Also none of it was particularly structured or guiding.

Anyways, I ended up having a difficult time (still am) with sleep these days cause of stress and worry. I ended up coming across this amazing program that utilizes mindfulness and cognitive therapy (+ science!) to combat insomnia. It's called SLEEPIO (google it if you're interested). Then through Sleepio, I found out about a meditation program called HEADSPACE, which I've begun utilizing everyday. It's incredibly modern. I use it on my phone every morning and on my lunch breaks and before bed. They are just little 10 minute sessions that help you cultivate mindfulness. These two programs combined have basically put me in touch with a meditation program and therapist who is teaching me cognitive behavioural therapy. All through my internet browser. I don't have to pay huge sums of money to see someone and the effort expended on my part is super minimal.

So where it comes into play for CPPS.... Mindfulness is such a powerful tool. Just observing your thoughts and not reacting to them empowers you and lets you also be very rational about your worries. Once you learn to observe them you can almost laugh at your catastrophic ways of thinking. I feel as though if I keep up with the mindful meditation, I will be a transformed man in a few months. Honestly, if I knew about mindfulness back in the day, I probably would have been able to avoid CPPS.

If anyone is interested in either programs, a simple google query would turn them up. Note: I don't work for either company, I just found that the convenience of getting help through the internet is amazing and incredibly cost effective.

I guess this post is just a HUGE thumbs up to Mindful Meditation. Everyone should be trying it in conjunction with their stretching!

+1 for mindfulness. Whenever things get worse for me, it's always when I lapse in my mindfulness training. Because much of pelvic floor dysfunction is rooted in anxiety and worry, mindfulness is a very useful tool.
