electrostimulation
I have had a long flare up of symptoms, going on ten months. Hate this. I have urinary retention, an enlarged prostate being 63 years old, and a compressed nerve at L5S1. My uro is offering me the Medtronics electrostimulation device implanted in my back for pelvic pain and to help me urinate better. Has anyone tried this or heard of it? I searched the website but no posting abou it.

Re: electrostimulation
Hello Latte, have you been diagnosed with urinary incontinence or any other medical condition?
Age: 30 | Onset Age: 19| Symptoms: Urinary frequency, Urinary urgency, constant 24/7 sensation in the penis (in the tip mainly - burning/pressure/discomfort/"wetness"), Nocturia, discomfort and pressure in the pelvic region radiating to the abdomen and becoming severe as time passes since last urination (resolved in 2014 by myofascial release), Stream velocity is somewhat slow and prolonged with an average velocity of ~13cc/min (and max 18cc/min) found in flowmetry test when bladder is filled with 500cc at age 25 (I always feel like I need to press my abdomen to urinate, improved later on when using alpha blockers)| Helped By: especially MYOFASCIAL RELEASE (especially in the areas of hips and abdomen) - generally resolved my abdominal aches, but penile symptoms remained the same| Worsened By: Coffee and possibly some other food as well| Other comments: Quercetin and acupuncture helped me no more than a placebo effect. Age 25-26: Diagnosed with indirect inguinal hernia and medium hydrocele at the same side. After operation many of the acute symptoms disappeared, but the chronic urinary and pelvic symptoms remained much the same.

Re: electrostimulation
Well they have tested me for just about everything including allergies and arthritis. I am being treated for mast cell activation syndrome. I don't have urinary incontinence but I do have urinary retention. I take Flomax every nite which helps.

Re: electrostimulation
My uro says that any surgical option is not feasible since I have pelvic floor dysfunction. He says a TURP may not do much. The latest MRI shows severe nerve compression at L5S1 but most people I talk to say that should not cause urinary retention. I think that's the problem. I see a spine surgeon in three weeks.

Re: electrostimulation
If you have an enlarged prostate and consequent retention (a common complication of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH)), then a TURP may be indicated. Your pelvic floor problems have nothing to do with the removal of hyperplasic tissue from the prostate gland (sounds more like the uro is covering his ass and does not want further problems with you down the road). Get another opinion, I'd say, from another uro (and don't confuse the new uro w/ the long history of CPPS, which is probably unrelated to this issue).
