Need some advice on finding a Psychiatrist

Post by sufferinginpain »

As some of you are aware, I have been battling CPPS / LAS for a little over a year now. I have come a long long ways to healing and knowledge. I've had an extremely rough 2 years with all the pain I had, and the miserable relationship I ended a few months ago that I had with my unfaithful girlfriend of 4 years.

I am about 85%-90% healed now. The pain level has dropped from 8 or 9 to about 1 maybe 2. Most of my symptoms are annoyances now like feeling of numbness or occasional burning. Things have drastically changed, and I have to thank everyone on this site, as well as my Doctor for being an educated Uro.

I've unfortunately lost a lot of my close friends in the time I was dating my gf, things have changed so much that I'm pretty much a loner at times. I have been trying to be more social and get the horrible thoughts off my mind, however, it's been a difficult journey for me. I feel that I am not only hurt by the events in the past few months, but possibly scarred and scared. I know that I need some sort of therapy, I get into bouts of depression and anxiety several times a week, I feel that I have crazy mood swings and they are difficult to control. I am not taking any medication at the moment, and have stopped for at least 3 months now.

Can someone recommend to me a psychiatrist in the Los Angeles area? Would a psychiatrist be the correct person to go to? I don't really want to waste time with someone to can't prescribe something to me if needed.

Thanks guys.

I'm not saying you shouldn't see a psychiatrist, but please think about arming yourself against the "slings and arrows of outrageous fortune" (Hamlet) with a robust philosophy. We all need something to fortify ourselves, spiritually and psychologically, in this life. I highly recommend Alan Watts for getting things in perspective.

A Psychologist is perhaps more suitable in my experience as the physician angle seems not to be required in CPPS to me and can often make CPPS worse as they will try to medicate you. YMMV. Sometimes just talking about things can make a huge difference in letting the pelvis heal and relax.
