I really just wanted to post and give an update on my condition. Well 16 years has come and gone since I came down with this disease and I for the most part have it under control. I do experience periods of full symptoms, sometimes as short as 48 hours, and one time, 2 months. When I first go this disease I was in pain for most of three years. Then it simply went away for quite some time. Like I said it occasionally rears it ugly head but with the use of narcotics (tramadol, amitriptyline, sometime heavier narcotics if necessary) I have been able to control it well.
I have done every test and have seen 5 or more Urologists over the years, nothing ever showed and not one of them ever helped me. I was able to get relief from the directions on this site, using pain management really saved me. I know some look down on pain management, but to I came to realize that today is most important, not if I will feel better after weeks of antibiotics or the god awful number of other pills I took for this.
Some of my observations from over the years -
This (my) disease is based on stress \ anger and its interaction with the muscles surrounding the prostate area. Although it's just a stupid theory of mine, but I think the prostate has nothing to do with it. Quite a few times while my symptoms were at or close to 0, I got upset or angry and within an hour or so I felt the beginning symptoms of CP (or whatever name they have for it now) coming on. In most case it would be a full on flare up. I also came down with a very bad stomach bug (you can imagine), that really got the symptoms going again. I try as hard as I can not to get angry, but life is stressful and sometimes the symptoms show up.
The drugs I take mainly (tramadol, Elavil) do control the symptoms, but sometimes they don't. You need to stick with the regimen even if they are not working, because they eventually will, at least for me. I thought that the Elavil wasn't doing anything for me, but when I ran out of tramadol, and only had Elavil, it did work. I would note that although tramadol only a has a slight narcotic effect, withdrawal from the drug is brutal. If I am on it for more than three weeks, I need to slowly wean myself from it, and even then I have a bad week or so. Also please note that I have been told that Tramadol and Elavil do interact with each other and can cause issues. I did plenty of research and asked Dr about it but I haven't had any problems, but even if I did they can't be worse than what I have.
Dealing with pain every day is also a mind game. I know for newbies what I am going to say sounds crazy, but you can't dwell on it. You need to take things a day at a time, try to relax, stop visiting Dr if you already have had everything checked out, stop coming to this board and reading every word. Try different remedies, herbal, pain mgmt, talking with a therapist (I know someone in pain is reading this and saying I don't need a therapist, you're probably wrong, I was).
I will be checking response to my post over the course of the next week or so and answer any questions, people post.
Good luck to all of you
Joe

Do you do any of the massage and streching techniques or are you just using pills?

Re: 16 Years and Counting
Dude PLEASE buy the Wise-Anderson Protocol book called A HEADACHE IN THE PELVIS - 16 years man is too much!
Once you read it I will post more for you. Please fill in your signature so we know how to respond better - and your rough location. That is your homework read A HEADACHE IN THE PELVIS and come back and we will get you better and off those pain meds. It may take time but you will get there. So many on here, some very bad cases like mine even, are not on pain meds now it would surprise you but it can be done!
I am sorry you have suffered so long.
