My pain free Rx recipe

Post by freddyj »

My list is long (I think). But for those interested in a pharmacologic treatment to suprapubic burning and the myriad of other symptoms associated with a tight sphincter...here's my recipe. First, I should add that a major focus in my recovery was/is a restorative night of sleep:

Am:
1) Celexa 40-60 mg (anti-anxiety dosing; daily dose increase depends on baseline anxiety)
2) Flomax 0.4 mg :P

Pm:
3) Lunesta 3 mg (one hr before bed, one hr after eating) :icon1:
4) Trazodone 100 mg (just before bed) :icon11:

I'll lay out the benefits and drawbacks as I have experienced them. First of all, the are zero side effects from Flomax, so only gains here. In addition, the Celexa helps with my social anxiety symptoms a lot. I mean a lot: I am glad I got in on this in my 20s versus living with such high anxiety. Lunesta is a longer acting version of Ambien, so those who have negative reactions to sedative-hypnotics might want to skip this one. And Trazodone is a good sleep aid and also has quelled the majority of subrapubic burning, down to barely noticeable.

One particular drawback are sexual side effects from Celexa. The drug is like a chemical castration, and decreases libido significantly. It prolongs ejaculation and forces voluntary muscle contraction to actually "go", thus leading to temporary increased sphincter tightness. However, to prevent this I simply stop taking Celexa a day or two before sex and I'm basically ready, willing and able just like before. With Celexa the benefits definitely outweighed the risks. And honestly having a lower libido is quite relaxing. Before all I thought above was sex and how I might not be able to to please women. A lot of that pressure has lifted. I've recently proposed to a great women and get along just fine.

cheers,
FreddyJ
