I think I have found the right group/place?

Post by mrwright »

Although my symptoms are not exactly like most here (I actually have no frequency/urgency pee'ing issues) I think I have finally found what has severely hindered my life for so many years. For whatever reason my prostate/pelvic region seems to refer pain to my lower back. For years I though this was mainly a lower back issue since that is where the pain is more intense but multiple MRI's have failed to find anything really wrong in the lower back.

Besides having to reduce frequency of sex due to pain during and after ejaculation there are three big situations associated with this condition that are most frustrating.

1. Sleeping: There are some mattresses that I simply cannot get comfortable sleeping on. Under the absolute best of circumstances I can only lie on my back and usually I can strategically arrange a towel under the pelvic region to achieve a comfortable position but on some mattresses I cannot do this successfully. The result is pelvic/back muscles going into spasm, no sleep and a lot of sweating.

2. Pants and shorts: Some very subtle pressure points are apparently activated when wearing most pants and shorts. I struggle mightily to maintain a wardrobe of clothes that I can actually wear. I have to shop quite a bit just to find one pair that I can wear without extreme discomfort. I can have 2 pairs of the identical brand, model and size pants and one is OK and the other I cannot wear for even 5 minutes. Amazing.

3. Like in the previous two situations, most chairs and car seats are pretty much intolerable and cause spasm in the pelvic area that radiates pain to the lower back. However, I do find the occasional one that works pretty well. I am just so incredibly sensitive to even the slightest deviation from some small optimal angle of sitting or lying down or pressure from clothes.

I have been to one urologist locally but I was so far away from his comfort zone that he was no help whatsoever. I think I would probably benefit from a relaxation/PT protocol but would like to be analysed by a Urologist that knows a thing or two about chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome first to rule out anything else before proceeding down that path.

Also one other very strange thing about my condition is that melatonin and antibiotics absolutely and without a doubt make this condition much worse. This does not make sense to me but the cause/effect is fully repeatable and undeniable.

Bottom line is that here in Central Florida I know of no Urologist that knows much about this condition and can help eliminate some of the bacterial or other potential causes so that I could perhaps move forward with a PT based treatment. Any help in finding a good Urologist in or near Central Florida would be most appreciated. Thanks
Age: 44 | Onset Age: 20 | Symptoms: Perineum pain radiating to lower back during/after ejaculation, and while/after sitting, lying on most mattresses, typing, driving | Helped By: Avoiding triggers | Worsened By: a whole host of activities and melatonin, antibiotics

Nothing I haven't heard before, except the pain in back from variations in seating angle suggest disc pressure on nerves exiting spine. If you are overweight and/or very sedentary and/or have a history of back problems or a family history of back problems, you may want to look into this.
Good News! The great ProstaQ is BACK at last! You must try it.

I can't offer any options close to where you are, but as a fellow Floridian, I would suggest the University of Miami's health system. That is where I have been treated, from PT to pain management. It's not where I underwent my urological examinations, however, so I'm not sure if you'd need a referral to get in.
I am not a physician. This is not medical advice. Consult your doctor!
