I guess my last post was too all over the place to get much of a response, thanks webslave for at least commenting something..I have spent a good part of the day reading posts and have a couple questions.
1. I keep seeing people refer to "flares"...does that mean you have frequent periods where the pain or urinary issues aren't there and then it flares back and then goes away again?
2. I have seen a lot of posts regarding mast cells and things that damage them. One of them being opioids? I took vicodin for several months, which I didn't do in the two other times I have dealt with this. Does that really make things worse?
3. I live in northwest Arkansas and to the best I can tell there aren't pelvic pain PT's in my area, has anyone had any success working with a chiropractor?.. All the docs seem to want to do is give me more and more drugs, I have found that any accredited quercetin product and even quercetin on its own make the pain much worse...It seems like 7 years ago the last thing I was prescribed may have been Mobic?... Has anyone had any experience with that, I am wondering now if that is what helped me then and the spontaneous remission on vacation was really the Mobic working?
Thanks for your time.

question on mast cells and flares
Age:38 | Onset Age:37 | Symptoms: Pain primarily in right testicle, greatly worsened after urination although recently whole scrotum feels inflamed again..no urinary issues..this is my third and longest bout in last 8 years...Never have burning in urethra after urination but scrotum and rectum will feel inflamed afterwards.
Helped by: Warmth, walking, valium some, hydrocodone sometimes helps
Worsened by: Sitting, pain day after sex, bowel movements, sugary foods, seemingly ibuprofen and advil?...supplements like vitamin d, quercetin, saw palmetto cause worse pain, certain antibiotics make pain much worse as well.

Re: question on mast cells and flares
Flares: some people have periods of remission interspersed with flares; others are in constant pain.
Mast cells: opioids can make some symptoms worse, especially of taken long term. But they are useful for suppressing symptoms in the short term.
If even generic quercetin makes symptoms "much worse", it could be that you are experiencing the effects of sequestered, inspissated secretions draining from the prostate. Keep going for a few weeks with the quercetin. This will allow these irritating secretions to drain completely.

Re: question on mast cells and flares
So mast cells release histamine, which causes inflammation...is that the main mast cell secretion that is relevant to CPPS? And I've heard of certain drugs being "mast cell protectors" (like Elavil)...does that mean it prevents mast cells from secreting?
Age: 35, Onset: 30. | Symptoms: Intermittent pelvic discomfort/pain (in prostate/bladder area), feeling false need to urinate, weaker stream. Helped by: Began taking Ultracet 1 year after onset, which helped make condition more manageable. Ace Hot/Cold Compression Wrap (I use heat) helps a little. Just found Prosta-Q and will try soon. Makes worse: Stress/anxiety. Bowel movement and urination can stir up symptoms.

No, mast cells are a witch's cauldron of chemicals.

Quercetin contains grade-A quercetin, a superb mast cell secretion blocker. Elavil a mast cell protector, muscle relaxant, & subdues nerve pain.

I hope this is whats happening in my case... been taking it for about 2 weeks now and am randomly feeling some symptoms again. I'll continue to take it and hopefully drain all the "sequestered, inspissated secretions".webslave wrote:If even generic quercetin makes symptoms "much worse", it could be that you are experiencing the effects of sequestered, inspissated secretions draining from the prostate.
