Any luck with Lyrica?
I've discovered pretty quickly on this site that this seems to be a Stanford/Wise-Anderson Protocol and Quercetin group. I'm seeing a urologist from Harvard that seems to be focussing more on medicinal approaches to easing the symptoms as opposed to physical therapy. I've had manageable symptoms for 12 years but they've just exploded to include most symptoms that define CPPS. Today for first time I had pain during ejaculation. Any advice on that would be great. But my doctor has put me on Lyrica and i've been on it for about 3 weeks. I know it takes longer than that to work but I don't have much faith after reading the study reports. Anybody having any luck with Lyrica? I believe he put me on it because I told him my #1 symptom that I wanted to get rid of was the severe tingling in my testicles. But since I saw him about 6 weeks ago I've had so many more symptoms including soreness upon standing, increased frequency, spasms inside my perineum extending to my penis and now pain during ejaculation. I'm pretty resigned to the fact that Lyrica may not help for all of these symptoms but even some would be great. Any advice is much appreciated. For years I've had minor symptoms that have had very little affect on my life. Now these symptoms control my life.

My discovery that I have been telling people for years is to RELAX DURING ORGASM. It takes a little practice, but you'll find that it helps a lot with the pain issue.
Good News! The great ProstaQ is BACK at last! You must try it.

Re: Any luck with Lyrica?
Hi,
I take Lyrica as one out of four drugs in my pain management cocktail, and have done so for years. It's my personal opinion that it has helped me, but it's important to emphasize that it works as a component of my larger plan. Whether you will have the same response is something I can't predict.
I'm also of the opinion that this is a condition which has to be treated beyond drugs, although they do become a vital tool in serious cases such as mine. Having been through it myself, physical therapy really seals or disproves the muscular diagnosis, and hits at the physical core of the problem. I've also had to come to terms with this mentally, and that has been helpful. Acceptance, learning to calm down, and finding a way to accept the pain without yielding my life to it. Takes time.
That said, I've had this in varying forms since I was sixteen, and today is my twenty-sixth birthday. It'll always be with you, but that doesn't mean that you can't get the best of it!

I am not a physician. This is not medical advice. Consult your doctor!

Re: Any luck with Lyrica?
I am with Jay that it is a helpful part of a bigger plan. Lyrica calmed my pain enough to get me on the plane to SF from Australia so I could get 99.999% better. It made the pain manageable. But it was only doing the relaxation and massage that got me out of pain.
I am on it again for nerve pain from a herniated disc and it does help quieten the hyper nerves. But it works realy well with regular meditation and relaxation and trigger point work. 150mg a day 75mg morn and night was enough for me. It makes my ears ring. I am working towards getting off it again. Only the occasional twinge of pelvic pain after a horror 6 years. I have been out of pain and eating normally again after years of struggling with CPP..even my recent second back operation (disctectomy) the limp and foot pain is nothing on the pelvic pain. Nobody knows unless they have had it...it rots your mind. The Lyrica helps settle the crazy nerve sensations..it makes you sleepy though.

CPP since 2005. Prior to CPP always overly fit and active. I am female. Had two natural births: singleton 1998 and twins 2000. 2002 emergency back surgery - L5S1 herniation. Then recurring UTIs. Usual antibiotic overload. Then constant debilitating burning bladder and reaction to many foods. Australian Pain Clinic 2007. Turning point was Dec 2009 Attended Wise Clinic in Santa Rosa USA.
Was helped by strict diet but now eating normally after years of restricted diet - wonderful. Helped by: stretching, relaxation, yoga, trigger point, warm baths. Worsened by: stress, sitting, abdominal or glute exercises and salicylates
Medication: Now off all pain clinic meds no more Endone or Elavil only Lyrica 50 mg as Dec 2010 just reherniated L5S1disc and had discectomy. Its taken years but I feel I am over it.

By relaxing do you mean relaxing my muscles? I've always had soreness after ejaculation but the pain during it is new. Lately I've tried to concentrate on not flexing my pelvic muscles as I've always unconsciously flexed during sex.
Thanks for your advice

BRENN
How is the Lyrica working for you since you have been on it a little while now?
I have had some interest in the drug since a doctor mentioned it a few years ago to me. I was on Neurotin for 4 yrs straight and took myself of it by myself since it did not work like we thought it would and since Lyrica does some of the same things as Neurotin I am not to sure if it will help any better than the Neurotin did ?
THANKS

I take two 100mg Lyricas a day. If I miss one, I really notice it. I wish I could take more, but it gives me unstoppable food cravings and I don't want the extra pounds. It cost me about 20 pounds to start.

Re: Any luck with Lyrica?
Hey ZR and clay2.
I'm not sure if the Lyrica works or not. I know that is not the answer you are looking for but I really don't know. I believe my doctor put me on Lyrica because of the severe testicular tingling I've suffered from. Since Lyrica goes at the nerves and tries to ease pain that way, I guess he thought it may help with tingling too. So far it hasn't helped with either pain or tingling. But since taking Lyrica I've noticed that my urinary frequency is way down but I attribute that to the fact that I've recently been concentrating on not flexing my pelvis muscles all the time. I started doing this at about the same time that I started taking Lyrica and I'm more inclined to believe my own relaxation has helped as opposed to the Lyrica. I've actually only been on Lyrica for one month for two separate months. I stopped taking it for a week in between as I thought it was giving me adverse effects. So I've really only been on it for a month and will give it another month to see if the pain and tingling eases. But even then I won't know if its the meds or the stretches I do that are responsible for the easing in symptoms.
Sorry it took so long to get back to you.
