Massage: Direct pressure vs. vibration

Post by Rebney »

Howdy all,

This is my first post, although I have been lightly scanning these boards for some time. My symptoms have been slowly but surely improving since I finally came to the realization about the nature of this condition, sometime around when I began attending college (5 years ago). While I find general happiness/relaxation to be the paramount treatment, I am interested in doing more effective self internal PT to wind down my overwrought muscles.

I have read a lot about direct/nearby light 'stroking' pressure to relieve internal trigger points (which I know helps and I will continue to do this), but has anyone tried using some vibration device to 'shake up' and break up these muscles? I have felt extreme relief in the past after long road trips (I attribute the relief to the constant rumbling coming up through the seat) and from the bass of my speaker system when I really crank the volume up. I figure using a device to directly apply vibrations to trouble spots (which for me are around the prostate/levator ani insertion points and coccyx region) could really do the trick.

I have been doing PT occasionally with my own fingers for some time, but would like to streamline the process a bit and make it more efficient/easier. I see Webslave's post over helpful products, and if I were to get just either a static wand or a vibrating device, which would you recommend? Thank you for your time and hope all is well.

Sincerely,
Rebney

I'd get the vibrating kind and experiment! It's true that vibration is good for relaxing muscle tissue.
Good News! The great ProstaQ is BACK at last! You must try it.
