Appendicitis and urinary symptoms

Post by BrettP »

Just had my appendix removed yesterday. I was extremely constipated and the pain started. Finally got the lap surgery and I'm back home. You want to know the strangest thing? My urinary frequency has all but disappeared. Sure it will come back as I heal but thought that was strange. I'm super bloated as a side effect of the surgery and even that isn't causing a problem. Hopefully this doesn't make my symptoms worse long term.

The temporary cessation of symptoms after an anesthetic has been reported before. More proof that we are not dealing with an infection, if more proof is needed.

Nope no more proof is needed at all. In fact they ran my urine and blood and of course no infection. Also my CT scan didn't show anything else but the inflamed appendix.

It's really bad these past couple days. Constantly feel like I have to pee. Not sure what sparked it again, also not sure if it's just referred pain from my healing incisions. I'm in hell right now.

Was able to speak with the surgeon who informed me that the belly button and bladder are somehow connected. He didn't seem overly concerned, however I'm in a lot of pain. When the incision site pain flairs up, so does the bladder pain. This is very odd.

Webslave, what do you think about all this? I thought I was getting better, and now I find myself in that dark catastrophic place.

I also took Zoloft the past couple days which I wasn't to impressed with. I thought maybe it was side effects from the Zoloft, but now I don't think so. Its my 8th day post op, weird that symptoms started only on day 6. I just wish this all would go away. I'm hoping its just the pain associated with healing and that it will go away, I'm worried that it will be permanent. Ehhh, this sucks.

I'd say wait at least 3 weeks and see if symptoms don't subside. The side effects of any operation, with the attendant use if opioid pain killers — opioids can actually make pain worse — must be allowed to fade before you can accurately assess the situation.

I wound myself up pretty bad. Went to the ER and they found nothing with a CT of my bladder and surrounding areas. Obviously no infection. Just told me it's nerves. I guess I'll just play the waiting game and get back to my normal routine. I think I had an anxiety attack. Just like the early days of my symptoms. Sad. Pain makes me do horrendous things. I'm just scared there are adhesions or nerve damage.

Webslave... I got my Anxiety under control with all this bull and a little Xanax. I feel pretty good and I don't really have that same awful feeling. Once I took the Xanax I was able to differentiate between the healing pain and the actual phantom bladder pain. Mostly the pain was coming from my navel and transmitting to my bladder. I still feel like I got operated on so I think it's just going to take some time. Thanks. The best part is that I'm not in that catastrophic place and am living above ground lol. Still shocked at how I was able to get so damn wound up and not even realize what I was doing to myself.

For anyone reading this it is imperative that you relax and take deep Buddha breaths And realize the mind can create horrible pain for you to suffer through if you think about it enough. I went from a minor annoyance to full on crippling pain by winding myself up on web

Just had sex and had the worst orgasm. I'm starting to think a lack of orgasm actually may precede pain. The more I have to get out the worse it is. It's like it is too much for condom and then flows back into penis. Absolutely miserable and then all the usual symptoms follow... I probably jumped the gun buts it's been almost two weeks since appendix out. Hopefully this will end soon. It's like my pelvic nerves are sore from surgery.

Webslave, I went swimming today, its been two weeks post op. And once again, as usual, I feel better. What do you think it is about swimming that leads to symptomatic relief from painful bladder? Possible that it strengthens and stretches certain muscles?

Also, I got back on valium and some antispasmodic called sanctura. I just started both, had to take the Valium to sleep last night.

Wondering how the sanctura will work. So far no side effects that I can tell.

Also, my bowels are working great post appendectomy, I really think the appendix was causing me long term issues. All the constipation, etc, its all gone after the appendix was removed. I know they say that's unlikely, but I'm almost positive there is some correlation.

Its just this horrible grinding bladder pain that I'm feeling that's keeping me from being normal again. I just hope there is no nerve damage. Or entrapped nerve, etc. Thats probably pretty rare. Just curious on your thoughts.

Swimming exercises and stretches muscles in the pelvis that are not stretched by normal activities. You need to look into stretching as a remedy.

Other than that, you simply have to give the body time to recover from the trauma of the surgery.

Ok. Feeling better I guess. I'm taking the sanctura and some Valium. I need to start having sex again so looks I'm going to try again tonight. Hopefully I can finally normalize and it won't bother me.
