Feeling better

Post by kevin »

I'm pleased to report that my symptoms have improved significantly over the past year and a half. I'm subjectively around 50% better.

I first got this condition in 2003; it got progressively worse until reaching a plateau at the beginning of 2005. From 2005 to 2008 I was in misery. Severe bladder pain, going to the bathroom 30+ times a day. My quality of life was dismal. The worst period for me was the spring of 2008, when I felt like I was in a constant flare.

Then in the summer of 2008 I noticed my pain just wasn't as sharp anymore; this has continued to the present day. IC/CPPS still has a big negative impact on my life, but at least it is more manageable than what I endured from 2005 to 2008. I still have days when I flare up and return to my old pain levels, but the good days outnumber the bad.

I got a bladder Botox injection around a month before my remission started, but overall I attribute my improvement to my body healing itself. Avoiding sexual activity has helped too.

If you're going through a rough time, hang in there. A remission might come when you least expect it.
Started: Spring 2003; high urinary frequency and pain associated with bladder filling; urinary hesitancy; pubic/prostate/perineal discomfort; Helped by: trigger point therapy, Afrin nasal spray, Cymbalta, hydrocodone (small doses), distraction. Makes worse: sex.

Kevin,

That's great to hear...

Do you consider the Botox injection as having any positive impact on your pain level?

I encourage anxiety prone UCPPS people to consider L-Theanine
Age, 44 onset age 37 Feb 2006 Freq. need to urinate. Sensation of having to urinate soon after going. Perineum discomfort/burning/tightness, pubic area discomfort @ times, poor urine stream, post urine dripping/spray. All symptoms have improved with my protocol. At the worst I give it a 1 to 2 on irritation and discomfort and frequency. Helps: Elavil 5mg for anxiety and mast cell protection, (will only take it as needed) self internal PT as needed, stretching, walking, stairmaster cardio workout and light weights, reducing stress, moment to moment relaxation, deep breathing relaxation and using a Theracane. Makes worse: sitting for long periods, stress, over focusing on it. Currently 95%-98% recovered. Stay positive, relaxed and control your anxiety.

I don't know. I got a second Botox injection later in 2008 when I was in a flare period, and it didn't make me any better.

Good to hear, Kevin. Hopefully this is the tailing off process.
