ERECTION PAIN/MARRIAGE SOON (Whoaday's Case)
Hello,
I am very new to this side...as in Just about 10 minutes ago I was approved. I've been looking at the parts of this site I could for sometime now and I wanted to ask some questions. First, Webslave, thanks for making this forum. How long have you been symptom free?
I talked to Dr. Wise early on when this pain started, and of course he recommended I come there. However, I was 24, live on the opposite side of the country and do not have the 6 grand it would take to go there. To give a short list, as I haven't made a signature yet, I started with right testicle pain and bad leg pain. Went to the doctor, they did a CT scan, found nothing. Did multiple urine tests, STD's, blood, all negative. Referred to a Uro, DRE showed just slightly swollen seminal vesicles just told to take hot baths. This all started November, 08. As it progressed, I started urinating 15-20 times a day, but never woken up at night. It would sting when I peed, and I would have bad leg pain. Went back to doctor, put on 10 day anti-biotic nothing. Months went by and that's when the rectum pain started. I am a drummer, so I was sitting a lot and bouncing. It first felt like that all too familiar golf ball in the rectum, but then that went away, it literally felt like it moved and became bad perineum pain to the point where I couldn't stand to sit. I actually took two days off from my job (I'm a youth pastor at a church) because I was so overwhelmed, obsessive thoughts, worried it was gonna ruin my life.
I have a chiropractor who has been treating me for a while. My spine and Pelvis were out of alignment when all this started, (had been for YEARS) and that makes me wonder if this could be a part of it. He referred me to a PT, the only one in South East VA that seems to know about PFD and trigger points. She classified me as having PFD with Tension being my primary issue. Now my pain is mostly square in the rectum. Through going to the PT and doing home stretches, baths, and trigger point release and relaxation, my leg pain is all but gone, urinary symptoms improved, perineum barely hurts. However, the rectal pain is still there. She and I both do internal treatments but haven't really identified other than tightness and pain where a trigger point could be.
So my main issue with the rectum pain, is that upon erection it hurts in the base of the penis and in the rectum. I am getting married in LESS than 3 weeks, and I have read a lot that suggests, especially at the beginning or middle stages of this pain, to limit sex or not have sex at all. Well, as corny as this may sound, based on my beliefs, I have been celibate up to this point and so has my soon to be wife. We are looking forward to the wedding and more specifically the wedding night, but it's some what stressful knowing that just having an erection now is painful, let alone what it will be like to have sex.
Having said ALL that, I have a few questions.
One, what is the general recommendation on sex? Good? Bad? should I wait? Two, I see most people spend at minimum a year with this problem...is it pretty clear it will take at least that long? Three...are there ALWAYS internal trigger points, or could external ones be the root of the problem? Four, will sex stop my progression? Webslave, how did you recover and how long did it take you? I am not and probably never will go to the Wise-Anderson protocol...does everyone here believe it's ABSOLUTELY necessary to go to for healing? And finally, being that I'm just not 25 (as of three days ago) will I potentially recover faster because I'm young, and is the regiments of stretching, trigger point release, baths, relaxation something that has to be done multiple times a day, every day for the rest of my life? If i start to get better and miss one will I be ruined?
Thank you for reading this very ridiculous post and God Bless,

Also, I wanted to mention I currently use an inflated doughnut cushion in order to sit at work and although it puts pressure on the backs of my legs it def. helps me get through the day...I did purchase the cushion from the IC network page earlier specifically for guys with chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome so I am hoping that my help as well and be a little more discreet than a red floatation device looking thing. It got to the point where I had to stop playing drums.

Re: ERECTION PAIN/MARRIAGE SOON
2x a week seems a good medium. Generally, it's better to clear out any secretions from the prostate gland, especially if the secretions are laden with WBCs.Whoaday wrote:what is the general recommendation on sex? Good? Bad? should I wait?
There are no hard and fast rules about this. Some people take weeks, some take years. Two, I see most people spend at minimum a year with this problem...is it pretty clear it will take at least that long?
If you have trigger points, then some of them will certainly be internal, where the chief culprits, the levator muscles, are lurking. And your symptoms point to levator problems.Three...are there ALWAYS internal trigger points, or could external ones be the root of the problem?
No, but use the "relax during orgasm" technique to keep nerve activity to a minimum.Four, will sex stop my progression?
I used relaxation, career change, dietary change, any accredited quercetin product and internal massage to recover. It was hit-and-miss and took me nearly 10 years.Webslave, how did you recover and how long did it take you?
There are quite a few skilled therapists in the US. In your shoes, I'd make an effort to see one near to where you live if possible.I am not and probably never will go to the Wise-Anderson protocol...does everyone here believe it's ABSOLUTELY necessary to go to for healing?
Your youth will help you, for sure. However, once you have established the neural pathways to create this condition, it can easily come back if you totally ignore all the strategies you used to recover. Missing sessions is not serious, but an appreciation of the need to live life without unnecessary tension and stress, and avoiding things like drumming (where you sit with your pelvis tightly clenched), is essential. And finally, being that I'm just not 25 (as of three days ago) will I potentially recover faster because I'm young, and is the regiments of stretching, trigger point release, baths, relaxation something that has to be done multiple times a day, every day for the rest of my life? Re: ERECTION PAIN/MARRIAGE SOON
Thank you for the quick response! So are you saying I should never play drums? That would be devastating to me as I am an integral part of the praise band at church (albeit not playing the past few months) if I used a cushion chair would that help?
2x a week make sense, I just am concerned about the first week as I have the desire (as does she) to go at it like caged lions...

Re: ERECTION PAIN/MARRIAGE SOON
If you can monitor your pelvic muscle tension while drumming and keep the clenching down, then do it.
First week of marriage, ha, go for it.

Re: ERECTION PAIN/MARRIAGE SOON
I don't know if anyone thinks this could be related/helpful but I am going to a chiropractor called the Upper Cervical Chiropractic Association...They only deal with the atlas...at the base of the brain. Well, I've been going for nearly three months and when this was first going on and getting worse, they noted that on the right side my Pelvis was tilted to the right and tilted inward, and my muscles were super tight on that side. Since then, they have aligned my spine and pelvis, but I wonder if since I was this way for a lot of my life, if this isn't part of why I have tension. I also wonder if this means I could potentially heal faster as the tension was brought about by a mis-alignment at first...
Any thoughts?
P.S. Went to my PT again today, suggested that my main issues are the Levator Ani and she agreed. She typically does trigger point therapy on that area but most of the time its slightly painful, but nothing serious. However, TODAY...she went all the way around especially on the outside and hit a place that reproduced a lot of the rectum pain and was AT LEAST a 7...I don't think it's ever been that high...I was almost in tears but after a while of pressure it started to subside and she will continue to work on that from now on as most of the pain I have elsewhere has diminished. All of this with minimal medical treatment. I have any accredited quercetin product but haven't used it yet as I don't want to mask pain while trying to seek out and alleviate it. Again, could this simply be my body working itself out?

Re: ERECTION PAIN/MARRIAGE SOON
Personally, I would never visit a chiropractor (went to one as an adolescent and he hurt me). I would start the quercetin immediately.
Not sure what question you are asking.

Re: ERECTION PAIN/MARRIAGE SOON
Webslave,
Will the Quercetin ( I have any accredited quercetin product which I haven't used yet) help with the rectum pain also?
What I was saying was could my mis-alignment have been part of the problem..and also after my second PT appointment this past week working on the Levator Ani...it reproduced some of my previous pain...this is typically good right...means she is hitting the right areas? It's only been a little over a day since my last appointment and I am pretty sore today but I think that's normal yes?

Re: ERECTION PAIN/MARRIAGE SOON
I'm not a believer in chiropractors and don't think manipulating the spine is good for anything except maybe causing strokes and spinal disc herniation.
So no, I would say that manipulating your vertebrae would have nothing to do with your chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome symptoms.
The quercetin is useful for CP/CPPS. There's no point in not taking it, so take it. You are not using any other nutraceutical, and you're not taking antibiotics, so go ahead.
The symptoms during PT is a very good sign.

Well, I wasn't taking it because I didn't want it to mask the pain and make me think I'm better when I'm not...if the PT continues to work and I get better If i were to stop the any accredited quercetin product would I still be better...I just want to know I'm getting better and not just covering up the pain.

Re: ERECTION PAIN/MARRIAGE SOON
Webslave or anyone else,
I have a few questions. I understand the cured vs. symptom free deal. But for the fact that this issue can wax and wane (though mine has been fairly consistent) how do you know when you truly are symptom free, and are not just going through a "remission" stage? Do you keep up with the relaxation/stretching and all that stuff when your symptom free? What if you can't find any inner trigger points...could it simply be outside triggers like in the Claire Davies book?
And finally..sitting. I've been sitting on a dough-nut for a little over a month now ( I have bought a better cushion from the IC website that also helps guys with CPPS) and it will be coming in soon...but my question is how long until I can sit regularly? I have been to two movies in the past week (x-men origins and star trek) and sitting in the movie theater chair wasn't horrible but it most def. was not comfortable. Am I making it worse when I sit sometimes without the cushion?

Re: ERECTION PAIN/MARRIAGE SOON
This is an area of opinion, not facts. My opinion is that once you have had this, you are never cured, only in remission, even if the remission lasts the rest of your life.Whoaday wrote:how do you know when you truly are symptom free, and are not just going through a "remission" stage?
Ideally, yes, because the people who simply go back to all their old habits often relapse.Do you keep up with the relaxation/stretching and all that stuff when your symptom free?
Unlikely. If by "you" you mean yourself, I would not trust myself to be able to find all internal trigger points. You need a skilled therapist. What if you can't find any inner trigger points...could it simply be outside triggers like in the Claire Davies book?
If sitting caused pain, then through a feedback loop, you are, in a sense, "making it worse".Am I making it worse when I sit sometimes without the cushion?

Re: ERECTION PAIN/MARRIAGE SOON
Whoaday,
You can read my starter list and FYI...
I'm a drummer also and had to ease up for a while while I slowly healed...Now I drum my ass of as gigs come up. ( No pun intended) I would get a throne that has a back rest with space in the middle of the seat geared for the lower spine not being compressed. But the second advantage is it fees up the anus and perineum. Key for UCPPS. http://www.interstatemusic.com/webapp/w ... tId=217129
Expensive but it allowed me to drum again. You have to heal and learn to drop and relax even during rigorous drumming. It can be done. I'm proof!!!!!!!!!!! Take it from a punk rock/ power rock drummer...
Best...

I encourage anxiety prone UCPPS people to consider L-Theanine
Age, 44 onset age 37 Feb 2006 Freq. need to urinate. Sensation of having to urinate soon after going. Perineum discomfort/burning/tightness, pubic area discomfort @ times, poor urine stream, post urine dripping/spray. All symptoms have improved with my protocol. At the worst I give it a 1 to 2 on irritation and discomfort and frequency. Helps: Elavil 5mg for anxiety and mast cell protection, (will only take it as needed) self internal PT as needed, stretching, walking, stairmaster cardio workout and light weights, reducing stress, moment to moment relaxation, deep breathing relaxation and using a Theracane. Makes worse: sitting for long periods, stress, over focusing on it. Currently 95%-98% recovered. Stay positive, relaxed and control your anxiety.

Re: ERECTION PAIN/MARRIAGE SOON
Need some assistance,
This week, My PT has been doing some internal on me. It is uncomfortable/hurts just in the on set. On Monday, I got really bad stomach upset and had diarrhea about 18 times. Then today, she did the TENS on me I believe that send the tingling inside to help relax the muscle. Well before today and today my butt hurts really bad. I have very painful piriformis and levator ani and it hurts even when I walk...kind of a weird like something is being held tight in there. Is this is a flair up? All I have is any accredited quercetin product and I've taken it about 5 days haven't noticed anything yet? Should this be a sign things are getting better. She clearly hit spots that reproduced previous symptoms but this is about as bad as when I first got this and felt helpless. It sucks, and I just want to know this is a sign of things getting better. I'm keeping up with the stretches, doing trigger point stuff and relaxation/baths et cetera.
If this is getting better, will the pain decrease each treatment? I'm wondering how to keep doing internal PT if it feels like this. It hasn't always felt like this I'm just in a flair maybe? Any thoughts would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Whoaday
