Self Trigger Point Release work (Manick's Case)
I'll try to keep this short and to the point. A little over a month ago I started experiencing slight irritating discomfort after prolonged masturbation sessions in my penis and scrotum. Not long after this, one night I experienced a very sharp radiating pain on the sides of my gut like someone was tearing my skin apart, which got worse with even slight movement. So I went to go see a Urologist, and at first he suspected bacterial prostatitis, put me on antibiotics, and said to masturbate as much as possible (which means 2-3 times a day for me). For the first week I felt better, but then on the second week my penis would become red hot after ejaculating and my urethra became very irritated and this made it difficult and slightly painful to pee. After this, even thinking about anything sexual that caused me to build up fluid gave me sharp pains in all associated areas around the prostate. Touching the base of my penis also caused a sharp, nerve wrecking pain to emit on contact. After I saw him again and told him everything, he suspected I had non-bacterial prostatitis and put me on Uroxatral 10mg/day, and said to masturbate only when I feel like it (which to me, means the same thing as his former statement), even though I told him I felt like it was only making matters worse. For the first few days I listened to his advise, but felt like it was getting worse again, and decided to stop completely for at least a week regardless of my bodies urges. I am finding it difficult however to keep this up even though I am consciously pre-occupying myself with as many time-killing activities as possible and purging all sexual thoughts completely. Even though I am on my 3rd day of holding back, I am still experiencing what feels like tense pelvic muscles contracting, and due to other symptoms concluded that I had chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome and came here. I already know some of what I should or should not be doing to make this better, but the most important thing is still left unanswered to me. Is it good or bad to resume regular sexual habits, and can it make matters worse at the frequency I am used to (2-3 times / day)? I will admit that I sometimes have trouble reaching climax, and prolong ejaculation, but that is partially due to my daily medications side-effects.

Re: Frequency of ejaculation with CPPS?
2-3x a day is much too much. You are probably setting up an overuse syndrome in the pelvic nerves. Try 2-3x a week for a while. How do you find time for all this masturbating? Get out more, get involved in things outside yourself.

Re: Frequency of ejaculation with CPPS?
I don't have to really find the time to do it, its just there. The urge sets in during boredom, after I feel relatively fulfilled with my day already. All I really do is go to college and work like a dog till my head spins which makes it even more likely to happen, and less likely for me to do anything with the rest of my day because of how tired I am. Its just the nature of my lifestyle, and its been this way for years, but I won't deny that lately its been a bit excessive which is probably why I am like this now. Now that I realize its probably harmful, I have already started changing my habits regardless. I just still have to wonder what the real deal is since my doctor doesn't seem to think that its a problem and even recommends that I respond to my urges.webslave wrote:2-3x a day is much too much. Your doctor is ignorant on this issue. We've seen quite a few men report here that excessive masturbation was a trigger for their condition.
Change your lifestyle so that you don't get so bored.

Re: Frequency of ejaculation with CPPS?
I think this stuff is part of the problem for most of us. My symptoms came on seemingly around this issue. I think you need to chill out in a major way and develop a new more natural relationship with this habit. Too much of a good thing can be bad and this is just another example of it. Give yourself a rest and begin working on healing yourself before the muscles congest too much and enter a more hardened state. The sooner you can start seeing a physical therapist and start massaging the area out likely the quicker you will get over this condition. It took me 7 years to figure out this was a muscle condition I had created. By that point my muscles had formed trigger points and hardened up to a point that took lots of work to soften up and release. It's been a year and a half of constant massage for me to loosen up these muscles to a state approaching anything normal. Do yourself a favor and get started early... and treat your pelvic floor with the respect it deserves.

Re: Frequency of ejaculation with CPPS?
Hehe, well the problem I think is that I was too chill for awhile there.. I kept thinking it had no consequences and have always been one to respond to pure impulses over using my brain for activities that I knew would make me feel better in the long run. But now that I know about what harm it can cause, especially with the feedback I've gotten from here by people with the same problem, its far easier for me to just tell my body "No." and go on and do something else. I am on day 4 of holding back and am still doing pretty good at keeping myself preoccupied and my bad habits under control, and I think my pelvic pain is becoming less and less bothersome every day. I will start looking into getting physical therapy very soon and see what happens with that.

Re: Frequency of ejaculation with CPPS?
For me masturbation once every 2 weeks and only in a hot bath or sex with the wife once every 2 weeks anything more and I risk irritation and flare if I leave it over 3 weeks I also get symptoms ramping up.
Age:33 | Onset Age:19 | Symptoms:burning urethra, deep sore stinging around the perineum, dribbling | Helped By:when flare starts deep relaxing over a toilet to let out dribbling urine, hot bath, rubbing a heat cream on the perineum, Tens with a pad on the perineum, running, medication (solpadol) for pain. Current treatment: PT. | Worsened By:sitting, stressing over it, ejaculation, sometimes alcohol but I risk it. Been feeling a lot better last 6 months about 85% with a few flares lasting about 5 days. No longer having PT. Stretching every other night and I believe time is also a big factor for me

Taking psychostimulants with Prostatitis = Bad?
Hello everyone, I recently came across a very noticeable and curious side effect I had when taking some prescribed psychostimulant drugs for ADD with my Prostatitis which I acquired about 2 months ago, and I wanted to see if anyone could relate to my reaction from taking them or knew of any possible problems. Before I go any further, FYI I am specifically taking Vyvanse (Lisdexamfetamine) - 70mg and Dexedrine (Dextroamphetamine) - 15mg, and I have been taking them for about a year and a half now which were prescribed by a psychologist whom I've known for half my life.
One thing which had not re-occurred to me until recently, is that these drugs have always increased my libido to very high levels, making it harder to resist the urge to masturbate and harder to allow my prostate to recover from possible overuse. This was most noticeable when I first started taking them, because it increased not just my urge frequency, but also the amount of time it took to ejaculate. After awhile though, this started to feel more and more natural and I got used to it and did not realize that it may have possibly been still affecting me. Well recently, I made the decision to stop taking the medication for a week in suspicion that it might have been causing more harm than good, and I think I might have been right.
Before I go on, I'd like to add that my Uro said it was actually recommended that I ejaculate as often as possible after our first appointment, and after giving me anti-biotics. A month later when I came for a follow-up, I told him that ejaculating only made it feel worse and that symptoms would disappear only if I stopped completely. He disregarded that statement, put me on Uroxatral (Alpha Blockers) and said to continue my usual habits. I did however fell like the medicine actually did its job, because the pain started to feel different, and became less and less of a red-hot irritation (much like an infection), and more like an actual cramp. But I do believe his advise to continue my usual habits is the only reason I am still in pain and not completely better, and may have even caused a new problem. I can't put all the blame on him however, because I have always tended to respond to my urges, but I believe this whole time my medication was merely adding oil to the fire.
Moving on, and back to my part of the story when I began to stop taking my daily meds... My urges were far easier to suppress, and I went almost a whole week without ever getting the urge or even having random/persistent sexual thoughts like usual. Needless to say I went through some major withdraw symptoms the whole time, and even though I was under an immense amount of stress/lethargy from not taking my meds all of the sudden, I never once felt the same intense pain or urges as usual. After the week was up, I decided to take my morning Vyvanse dosage, and later that day began to notice a possible incompatibility with my prostatits. Even though I felt great all day and the pain of my prostatitis had left my body since 5 days ago, later in the evening my prostate felt like it was getting extremely hot and tense. It felt like it was being strangled and wanted to release, and didn't feel enlarged/irritated but rather ticklish, and perhaps even compressed/shriveled. The sides of my lower abdomen did not feel hard like usual when it was swollen, but still soft, and when I pressed down I felt no pain or anything. But everytime I decided to sit down, it felt SO sensitive that I couldn't hold it in any longer. But thankfully, since I had held back for almost an entire week, there was almost no pain that followed, but just tenderness from the tension. The next morning after waking up I still felt fine, but an hour right after I took my prescribed amount of dexedrine, it actually swelled up this time but the urge was far easier to resist.
Once again, if anyone can relate to this story, or confirm possible problems with taking these two similar amphetamine drugs, please let me know your thoughts. My psychiatrist or urologist saw no significant problems with the fact that I was taking them with my prostatitis (even though my psychiatrist looked through official documents), but my bodies reaction says otherwise. Thanks in advance.

Re: Taking psychostimulants with Prostatitis = Bad?
Hi there,
It would be best to consult your pharmacist regarding the effects of your drugs. However, from the mild research I did on both, I couldn't find heightened arousal as a listed side effect.
Regarding masturbation, your urologist's opinion is outdated. Your limits should be according to what your body tells you. With our condition, it's very possible to go too far. Some people (like myself) flare with any masturbation. The whole 'all chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome people should masturbate a ton' thing isn't wise.

Drugs for add or adhd besides Strattera http://www.strattera.com/index.jsp if I'm not mistaken are stimulants...Perhaps there could be a possible issue with these stimulant type drugs effecting your prostate.
Ejaculation 2 to 3 times a week with sex in a relaxed state seems to be the way to go. Too much of a good thing can be a bad thing. The old cliche is true in our case as a group.
Please read my starter list to get going in the right direction. It all starts with the mental...Not here to judge...believe me, but your screen name "Manick" says a lot...

I encourage anxiety prone UCPPS people to consider L-Theanine
Age, 44 onset age 37 Feb 2006 Freq. need to urinate. Sensation of having to urinate soon after going. Perineum discomfort/burning/tightness, pubic area discomfort @ times, poor urine stream, post urine dripping/spray. All symptoms have improved with my protocol. At the worst I give it a 1 to 2 on irritation and discomfort and frequency. Helps: Elavil 5mg for anxiety and mast cell protection, (will only take it as needed) self internal PT as needed, stretching, walking, stairmaster cardio workout and light weights, reducing stress, moment to moment relaxation, deep breathing relaxation and using a Theracane. Makes worse: sitting for long periods, stress, over focusing on it. Currently 95%-98% recovered. Stay positive, relaxed and control your anxiety.

Lying down feels worse than sitting down?..
Lately I have been lying down, taking naps and trying to relax as much as possible, but it doesn't seem to be helping much at all. The previous week I tried walking once a day, for 30 minutes or more, at an average pace, and that didn't help either (but I was also drinking coffee, which I've stopped doing). But something is also different now, because my pain is emitting from the sides of my middle abs, except its less intense BUT more consistent. It used to be in my center-lower abdomen area, where it usually felt extremely sore especially when pressed down on. I've also been getting small but painless, pulsating muscle tremors. What is going on with my body? The pain never seems to be the same one week to the next, and always appears somewhere else when one area stops hurting... Should I keep walking, or should I keep resting?

That's called fasciculations, and it's the first stage of a hypertensed muscle starting to relax. A good sign, in other words.Manick wrote:I've also been getting small but painless, pulsating muscle tremors. What is going on with my body?

Re: Frequency of ejaculation with CPPS?
So just an update on how I've been doing.. I've been abstaining quite successfully, but unfortunately the pain has been staying with me regardless. The fact that I am no longer following the bad advise from my doctor and am now cutting back does seem to have made the pain less intense, but for some reason its more consistent now. After waiting nearly a week and a half of no sexual activity, I was still in pain, and finally gave in to the temptation. But thankfully it did not hurt too badly and the pain subsided shortly after about 2 hours, even while sitting strangely enough. I can only hope that this means I am going to get better soon.

Re: Lying down feels worse than sitting down?..
I got those too and webslave is right again. I felt almost like a fluttering in my abs then things began getting better and better. I think you should try and do some walking to get blood flowing and do some stretching of the abs. I went through ups and downs too, I'm sure all the guys here did . .just stick with it and stay positive that is the hardest part of this thing keeping your mind in the right place. Oya, I rotated heat and ice after long day, and juccuzi at gym really helped a few times a week to relax the abs.
Age 32, onset 32 Onset Aug 07- frequency was main problem in the beginning-really bad. Now 1 to 2x per night when frequency flairs up. Sore and tight lower abdominal muscles. Occasional burning after bowel movement and full feeling. What helps: Healthy diet(this is huge for me) Started drinking super greens supplament and almost going totally vegetarian to get body more alkaline, starting Prosta-Q, quercetin/zinc tablet in morning helped frequency problem I believe. Massaging abs and doing stretches helps calm down frequency when it is acting up. Wine or vodka after long day. Flexeral and melatonin at night. Swimming and light weights. .5 of Elavil every other day helps with frequency and healing process. Trying to stay positive and not stressing over this!
