Bacopa for anxiety

Post by ajama484 »

This might just do the trick for you if you have anxiety. I've tried prescription medication and supplements, nothing has really put a dent into my catastrophic thinking. A month ago I came across a forum that was discussing nootropics (supplements that improve cognition) and the one with the most fanfare was bacopa. Apparently it works by lowering glutamate which is linked to OCD. So I checked out the reviews and nearly every review was positive. Now I was still hesitant because this is all anecdotal but I decided to give it a shot because well... what do I have to lose? I got the stuff last week took a quarter teaspoon for it (it tastes horrendous!) and holy shit an hour later I felt incredibly calm and content. Its not like a narcotic buzz more like the relaxed feeling after a wonderful day. Still wasn't sold because really, this could have all been a placebo effect. So I've continued to take it everyday twice a day (morning and night) for a week and my anxiety has become... nonexistent. I don't know if its the lack of anxiety but I've also noticed confidence and articulation have risen significantly. Now I'm not saying this is the best supplement ever made and that its a cure all for everyone but so far its done more for me than Ativan or Xanax. I would say its social effects are closer to alcohol without the drunk feeling and no impairment at all.

Mind you there's a side effect you might experience and thats flu like symptoms for the first few days. A double blind placebo study noticed that it happens to a subset of people taking it. If it lasts more than a week then you might have to stop taking it. I'm going to keep taking this for the foreseeable future and let you guys know how its going periodically.

In no way has this reduced the pain and discomfort from my pelvic issues but it has put me in a better position mentally to deal with it.

Cheers!

Sounds encouraging. I have a propensity to get a bit "over-stimmed" when there is a lot of input around me. Noisy wild kids, wife talking fast about all sorts of future committments, lots of things around me that need attention, etc... Being a perfectionist, sensitive, and feeling very responsible to everyone all the time does not help.

A hard workout (cycling or running) puts me in a much better place. Would also like to try a supplement that would settle my world a bit without making my head cloudy or thought process slow.

Could you provide any information about how to source a high quality Bacopa product?
Age: 44 | Onset Age: 43 | Symptoms: Steady burning in the perineum. Left side (Pudendal Nerve?) worse - almost no pain on right side. Mild ED. Urine often is split stream at start. Unknown cause - Profile seems a bulls-eye for this issue - I am serious cyclist, weight lift, and suffer mild constipation, and sit all day at office. Bicyclist for years without a problem - started frequent hard weight lifting - then suffered perineum pain. | Helped By: Sleep - I wake up every morning with NO symptoms. Symptoms present everyday while sitting, after BM, etc.. Hot bath helps. Moment-to-moment relaxation helps ( I tend to clench my pelvic floor when concentrating or stress). This board helps - reading other (PNA) boards make things worse. Being distracted helps. Sex is OK. Have only had external pelvic floor PT - only one Pelvic floor PT in my area. | Worsened By: Bowel Movement, sitting for extended periods, some weight workouts, sometimes cycling .
