Try not to pass urine when having a BM

Post by carld »

For those of you who pass urine every time you have a bowel movement...It's very important to try in a relaxed way to not pass urine...Just let the BM happen. It's important to have a diet high in fiber for our syndrome so BM's pass with not force. You can try this product I highly recommend...

www.konsyl.com

It's my belief that by passing urine creates cross talk of the nerves and can make you feel irritated and for those with frequency or the feeling of always having to pass urine from this condition...It's a form of bladder training. Once you are done with the BM...wait as long as you can to really let the bladder fill up, then really drop the pelvis and let it flow out and remove the remaining urine by pressing on the perineum to expell the last drops with out clenching the PC muscle to squirt it out.

Age, 44 onset age 37 Feb 2006 Freq. need to urinate. Sensation of having to urinate soon after going. Perineum discomfort/burning/tightness, pubic area discomfort @ times, poor urine stream, post urine dripping/spray. All symptoms have improved with my protocol. At the worst I give it a 1 to 2 on irritation and discomfort and frequency. Helps: Elavil 5mg for anxiety and mast cell protection, (will only take it as needed) self internal PT as needed, stretching, walking, stairmaster cardio workout and light weights, reducing stress, moment to moment relaxation, deep breathing relaxation and using a Theracane. Makes worse: sitting for long periods, stress, over focusing on it. Currently 95%-98% recovered. Stay positive, relaxed and control your anxiety.

I advise that you should breathe with the abdomen, rather than the chest, when sitting on the toilet.

If done correctly, you should be able to pass a bowel motion with little or no straining or conscious effort. If you breathe with the stomach, as it were, expanding your tummy and not your chest, it allows the anal sphincter to relax and puts natural pressure on the colon and rectum, making the act effortless.
Good News! The great ProstaQ is BACK at last! You must try it.

Carl-

You write "It's very important to try in a relaxed way to not pass urine".

I don't strain and I get relaxed. It is near impossible NOT to pass urine when having a BM. Wouldn't doing kegels or the like to stop urine make it worse?

My issue is my meds. I take tramadol when I need it for pain, which tends to constipate or at least harden stool. As a result, on those days I tend to eat a lot of fiber, which does the trick. Unfortunately, on better days where I don;t need the tramadol and take just tylenol or advil, everything is loose form all the fiber and I go 2-4 times in a day. It is all a balancing act.

Agreed...

It is very difficult to not pass urine...It is normal. I would not recommend kegels to stop the flow...If it happens, it happens... :-D

My current Elavil dosage (50mg) makes it nearly impossible to both at the same time, and my doctor recommended I lower it to 25. I recently went 3 days without a bowel movement, but my frequency is still there. Are you supposed to sit with a particular posture to help let it out easier? Because I think sitting up has made it easier for me, and I can imagine hunching forward would only make it worse. One thing I noticed though is that after a BM, if I push too hard and force it out quickly, it will definately cause my muscles near my rib-cage to flare up badly. If I let it out very slowly without strain, and try to use only my lower abdominal muscles and not the muscles higher up in my body, that a flare up is much less likely to occur. I also take a hot shower and then stretch a little bit afterwards and no longer feel pain even after a constipated BM. :-D
Age: 28 Onset Age: 24 Symptoms: Soreness in lower abdominals, sharp pain in upper abdominals Helped By: N/A Worsened By: Sitting for long periods, ejaculating, sexual arousal, wearing tight pants, hunching over or leaning forward, consuming caffine, lack of sleep

It's generally accepted that one will have an easier time of passing a BM while squatting. Our body was built for that, and in many parts of the world, squat toilets are still the norm. This position opens up the pelvic floor, making it easier for the muscles to relax. In any case, straining is the worst thing you can do, as it almost guarantees a flare. Take your time while going, and consider supplementing your medication with a stool softener. I'm on pain management, so that's what I have to do.

Where urination and chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome are concerned, I think it's best to go sitting down and leaning a bit forward. This position aligns a more direct route for the male urinary tract. Don't remember where I first heard that (may have been HITP), but I've followed that method ever since.
I am not a physician. This is not medical advice. Consult your doctor!

Age: 26 Onset Age: 17 Symptoms: Shooting, nerve-like pains throughout the penis, which abruptly hit and leave. Testicular pain, perineum pain, burning/irritative urination, extended pain after ejaculation. Occasionally, some allodynia or ache in the coccyx/sacrum/thigh/buttocks/legs. Diagnosis: Pelvic floor dysfunction, degenerated lumbar disk, and mildly herniated lumbar disk. Helped By: Physical therapy, pain management doctor, hot baths, therapy pool, stretching regimen, breathing exercises, relaxation, distraction. Worsened By: Arousal/ejaculation (worst), constipation, panicking/obsessing, other triggers depend upon current symptoms. Tests/Prior Treatments: Too many antibiotics to count, multiple urine tests (all normal), testicular ultrasound (normal), bladder and renal ultrasound (normal), lumbar and pelvic MRI with and w/o contrast (revealed disk problems), Elavil 25mg (caused retention), Flomax 0.4mg.

I prefer a magnesium supplement to keep me regular rather than a fiber supplement. It works much better for me than fiber. Anyone with problems with regularity should give it a try.
Age: 30 Onset Age: 29 Symptoms before: Extreme frequency, urgency, nocturia (x10-20 per night resulting in severe lack of sleep and depression), pain after ejaculation Symptoms now: Urgency, frequency (both much improved) Helped By: Physical therapy, stretching regimen, self massage/TP release, relaxation, distraction, having a full stomach Worsened By: panicking/obsessing, alcohol, caffeine

Wanted to bump this topic. Konsyl is a fantastic product. It has really helped me over the past two weeks.

Also I talked to my doc about pooping posture. He said squatting is good but also recommended to lean back. When I lean back it feels natural as breathe deeper and the stool comes right out with no straining. Worth a shot.
Good to go!
