epididymitis or hernia rather than prostatitis?

Post by english_cousin »

Hi

My urologist has diagnosed me as having prostatitis but I'm not convinced. My original symptoms were testicle/groin pain. I don’t have urination problems or the ‘golf ball’ pain which seems to affect most.

I've had blood and urine tests, both negative and done a combined 10 weeks of antibiotics, not really made any difference. Also had an ultrasound a couple of months ago which was clear.

I now have a ‘mass’ or ‘inflammation’ in the left testicle which is getting bigger. It seems to start at the top, near the groin and gets bigger as it goes down to the actual testy itself. My only symptom now is left testicle pain which gets worse after activity, washing the kitchen floor really wasn’t a good idea!! I have noticed that the pain lessens if I rest with my legs elevated.

I have an appointment with my urologist on Monday and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to what to ask for. I'm guessing another ultrasound would be a good idea as the ‘mass’ wasn’t anywhere near as big last time. I'm wondering if this might be epididymitis or even a hernia rather than prostatitis.

any thoughts

My current go-around with chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome started with testicular pain, which later progressed into other symptoms. I've got hydroceles and they were initially pretty interested in them, but when the ultrasound came back clean and the symptoms changed then it became clear they weren't my issue. But I've had these hydroceles forever with no apparent change. Given what you're describing, yeah, I'd be wanting a second scrotal ultrasound so they could compare.
