Hi There,
Male age 26
I am very new to this forum and somewhat new to the disease, first of all am very impressed on how you guys all come together as one community and really help each other out, as I can see its not an easy thing to go through for any of us. So Thank you all on making this forum possible and for giving us all hope and re-assurance.
It all started February this year 4 months ago, 1 night I had to urinate about 20 times, I had the usual burning on urination, slight pain in the pelvic area, urgency and not being able to fully empty the bladder. Straight away I went to my GP (Remember I Am in the UK so dealing with the NHS) The doctor took a urine test and diagnosed me with a urine infection and prescribed me with 10 days antibiotics. The urine test showed traces of nitrates and protein. 10 days passed very little improvement, although the initial so called infection had now gone my doctor said urine is sterile again. I was given 2 weeks of Cipro following this by now the urgency had decreased and was left with a dull ache and pain in the groin area. Month after I visited my urologist and he did a DRE and said my prostate was tender but NO INFECTION was found, but still gave me 1 month of Ciprofloxin and asked me to do an STD test (as I just got married last December) STD test was negative. The antibiotics had minimal effect and pain still carried on, I was referred to a ultrasound of Groin and Urinary are which is all normal, my bladder cystoscopy was also normal so I am stumped as to what could be wrong. I am on no medications at the minute apart from DR prostate herbal remedy which am not sure if it works or not!
I guess I do have a stressful job, but always had stress throughout my life for different reasons but never caused me any physical symptoms, but must admit my stress levels have been high last 9 months or so it may be contributing but I don't think its just that.
My current symptoms are dull/sharp main in my groin area, tingling itching sensation in my groin, and general discomfort in the whole area, and its not pleasant as I keep going on emotional rollercoasters thinking the worst. I can't help it at the moment I keep saying to myself why doesnt this pain go away, I guess I have always been the type of person who gets things done straight away and health has never been a setback until recent times, I guess thats frustrating me more.
I have not been officially diagnosed with CPP but have been told I have prostatitis I presume its the non bacterial kind.
Few questions on my mind are:
Do I have anything serious?
When nitrates found in urine did I ever have an infection? Can infection cause CPP even if the infection is long gone?
Can stopping Beta Blockers cause this problem (I stopped these in February same time as symptoms appeared) I was taking these following a successful op to remove a benign heart tumor 5 yrs ago.
Thanks for taking time to read my story
Raj

Beta blockers protect against social anxiety, inter alia, so stopping them could have increased stress levels subtly. It seems to me that the increased stress you report over the last year, coupled with the new anxiety about your symptoms and possibility the stress of marriage itself (or increased level of sexual activity that can come with marriage) have all conspired to put you where you are now.
Good News! The great ProstaQ is BACK at last! You must try it.

Hi Raj,
I see that Webslave has already chimed in, and I would tend to agree with his assessment.
Of course, it is impossible for us to say whether you have something serious, as we're not doctors. However, you have had a pretty good battery of testing done. This would no doubt have revealed anything immensely problematic. chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome is not deadly, but it can certainly put a major dent in your quality of life if left unattended.
You are very unlikely to have an infection after so many courses of antibiotic, including the very potent Cipro. However, I have read cases on here of pelvic myoneuropathy being initially triggered by UTIs. The cause eventually disappeared, but the pain persisted despite the absence of the infection. A pretty classic example of chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome from the muscular point of view. Something triggers the guarding reflex/pelvic floor tension, and then it fails to let go.
Your symptoms, in my layman's opinion, don't sound freaky for the diagnosis you've received. The pelvic floor dysfunction possibility is a good route to investigate once classic urological causes and treatments have been ruled out. However, it's very difficult to find qualified pelvic floor physical therapists in your part of the world. The only one I know of is Bill Taylor, whose info you can find in our PT listings in the clinics section of the forum. Otherwise, your best bet is a trip to Stanford.
Hope this helps some more.

Re: New UK member here confused looking for answers?
Guys,
cheers for your input much appreciated, One thing I must add the doctors I have seen have said to me its nothing serious and time will take its course and pain will subside on its own. They said it will just go one day, which may be possible but with my current stress levels it seems afar away.
Reason i think it maybe dangerous is maybe i have not come to terms yet to whats happening and I want to just wake up on morning and its gone (will i can only wish), I guess i just want to get ahead of the game and explore all treatment options available.
If I just wait will the pain go? Or shall i do something about this to help it? I am even re-considering taking beta blockers again but am doubting to see if it will work or not?
cheers
Raj
