Hello All,
New the the board, but a chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome sufferer for about 14 months. It is nice to find others who are living with this. I thought I was alone.
Here is my brief story: Started with some pain the testicles. Went to see a Uro. who said I had prostatitis and gave me two weeks of antibiotics and alpha blockers. No help. Saw a second Uro. who gave me Flomax and said I was in mild retention. Urge/Frequency symptoms and more pain Went to the Er, got cathed. Did a cystoscopy, CAT scan, MRI...all inconclusive. Started losing weight, having IBS issues. Went to a 3rd Uro. who diagnosed me as chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome and prescribed Pelvic Floor PT. Urinary symptoms got better, but began having bad pain in my buttocks, perineum, and coccyx whenever I'd sit down. Got referred to a PM&R doc who did an EMG; inconclusive. He put me on Atarax, which helped symptoms at night. Since then I've had a 2nd round of Pelvic Floor PT without success, tried relaxation CDs, yoga, a bunch of different meds, and now 14 months later, still have the pain and urinary symptoms. The only thing that helped was Tramadol.
My doctor started me on Desipramine, 20mg 2x a day. (It is an anti-deperessant in the Elavil family, w/o drowsiness) Two days, and no major changes so far. They said I can't take the tramdol with it, so I am hurting until this drug kicks in.
Anyone have success with Desipramine?
Anyone from Northern NJ who can recommend and good physicians or PT to see?
Anyone have any good words of advice?
Thanks.
