What is working for me.

Post by extreme3 »

After over a year, I am 100% convinced this condition is strongly tied directly to lifestyle and state of mind. For me, the following is working:

- PREVENTIVE: Lay off stuff prone to irritate the bladder: caffeine, sodas, etc. Don't put yourself back in the pain trap.
- EXERCISE: for me, jogging and power yoga have been great in promoting positive thinking and suppleness of motion. After this kind of exercise, I am symptom free for a while and the long term effects accumulate over time.
- MEDS: lorazepem and Lexapro have really taken the edge off, reducing anxiety and enabling sleep. Stay on these for at least six weeks to get full effect.

Last but not least, change your thinking! Doing things like the above will give you a step up in this department. I know PT has helped a lot people and that's great but ultimately you'll need lifestyle changes to keep yourself from falling back in this again.

The key is to break the anxiety-tension-pain loop. Once you do that, you'll be on the road to recovery. It takes A LOT of patience and faith and it takes a long time. It's easy to get discouraged and panic when things don't work right away, but stick to the plan. At this point, my urinary symptoms are gone and the pain has become more of a nuisance than anything severely debilitating.

Best to all.

I encourage anxiety prone UCPPS people to consider L-Theanine
Age, 44 onset age 37 Feb 2006 Freq. need to urinate. Sensation of having to urinate soon after going. Perineum discomfort/burning/tightness, pubic area discomfort @ times, poor urine stream, post urine dripping/spray. All symptoms have improved with my protocol. At the worst I give it a 1 to 2 on irritation and discomfort and frequency. Helps: Elavil 5mg for anxiety and mast cell protection, (will only take it as needed) self internal PT as needed, stretching, walking, stairmaster cardio workout and light weights, reducing stress, moment to moment relaxation, deep breathing relaxation and using a Theracane. Makes worse: sitting for long periods, stress, over focusing on it. Currently 95%-98% recovered. Stay positive, relaxed and control your anxiety.
