footwear recommendation? (illiopsoas/low back pain)

Post by pminturn »

I work on my feet, 10 hours a day. I bartend in a riverboat casino that is literally made of steel. On a busy night I'm constantly twisting, turning, and bending down. This compounds the fact that there's less than one inch of rubber bar mat between the steel and my feet.

I've been having some bad problems with some stubborn TPs in my illiopsoas (I've recently deduced that some pain symptoms as a teenager were related to this). This causes me severe low back pain while at work. There have been times that I wanted to leave early, but stayed because our staffing levels have been so low due to payroll cutbacks (economy).

I've worn Dr. Scholls massaging gel inserts for years - sworn by them. But it's not enough lately.

Do any of you have a recommendation on a particular shoe, insert, etc. that might alleviate some of the physical stress being put on me? My only requirement for shoes is that they're solid black.

If you don't mind wearing clogs that may be considered women's wear (although plenty of men wear clogs in Europe) Dansko clogs with a back on them are the best and will give you arch support and one to two inches of rubber. The only hazard is uneven surfaces like gravel or cracked pavement or cobblestones. If you're behind the bar nobody will know. You can walk forever in Danskos. They come in black. You may want to buy a pair and try them around the house.
Age: 51 | Onset Age: 28 | Symptoms: urinary frequency, pressure, burning after urinating (sitting pain, golf ball, etc. majorly improved by self-PT) | Helped By: self-PT, heat, relaxation | Worsened By: sex, stress, exercise, infection

I encourage anxiety prone UCPPS people to consider L-Theanine
Age, 44 onset age 37 Feb 2006 Freq. need to urinate. Sensation of having to urinate soon after going. Perineum discomfort/burning/tightness, pubic area discomfort @ times, poor urine stream, post urine dripping/spray. All symptoms have improved with my protocol. At the worst I give it a 1 to 2 on irritation and discomfort and frequency. Helps: Elavil 5mg for anxiety and mast cell protection, (will only take it as needed) self internal PT as needed, stretching, walking, stairmaster cardio workout and light weights, reducing stress, moment to moment relaxation, deep breathing relaxation and using a Theracane. Makes worse: sitting for long periods, stress, over focusing on it. Currently 95%-98% recovered. Stay positive, relaxed and control your anxiety.
