I just found out almost 3 weeks ago that I have Interstitial Cystitis. My urologist gave me a list of foods to avoid. Then I went to the ICA & Elmiron's sites, & their lists were much longer. I ended up printing their list (both are practically identical), so that I would know what I could & couldn't buy at the grocery. I'm getting frustrated by the lack of things to eat that I already like. Also, the nurse practioner at the urologist's office said that I wouldn't have to stay off all these foods forever-that after "some" time I could reintroduce them one-by-one to see what causes my flare-ups. Once I find out, she said I could take a
Prelief tablet before I ate that food to avoid a flare-up. Is this true? If so, how long do I need to wait? Do I need to wait until the Elmiron kicks in?
Secondly, I have never been sexually active, but would like to get married someday & have kids. Will I, as an IC sufferer, ever be able to enjoy intercourse? I've been looking forward to it for a long time.
I would love to be able to get married, but if it's going to be painful each time, I wouldn't want to subject my future husband to my problem.
