Cystoscopy follow-up (FINALLY!!!)

Post by pminturn »

I saw my urologist yesterday. That was 31 days after my cystoscopy. Nothing wrong was found with me just like all the other tests and "treatments."

My urologist gave me the diagnosis that I've know for quite some time. I have a pelvic floor dysfunction. I'm scheduled for a weekly physical therapy session for 6 weeks. From what I gathered, this will consist of biofeedback therapy and pelvic exercises (some Kegel).

I mentioned that I had been reading up on the Stanford/Wise-Anderson Protocol. Especially myofascial release. He basically said that not's a step (myofascial release) we want to take yet in a man my age. I'm 29.

Anyone have this sort of treatment? Has this treatment been heplfull? I'm just skeptical that is just a short term treatment and doesn't get to the source of my pelvic floor dysfunction.

My urologist has not read Dr. Wise's book. Neither have I, but everything I have read about it on this forum makes me a believer. I ordered 2 copies (sale on Amazon). They will be in later today. The second copy is for my urologist.

I went to my first session of PT yesterday. I didn't ask the official title of the woman I met with due to my anxiousness to tell her about what I have read in AHIP. I'm not sure if she is a PT or a nurse. I had a copy of AHIP in hand to give to my urologist. She said she had read parts of it. I gave her the 2nd copy I bought to give to my urologist.

This is basically what the nurse/PT told me:

I will be doing biofeedback to isolate my pelvic muscles. I will do limited Kegel exercises only to know when I'm using my pelvic muscles. There will be no intrarectal EMG due to the fact that I do not suffer from incontinence. Most of what I will be doing will be relaxation.

The only thing we did besides going over my symptoms was a short relaxation session. My body has not felt so at ease in as long as I can remember.

I think you need to see someone that specializes in internal trigger point therapy. Usually a physical therapist. They need to be able to get inside and really examine the pelvic floor to ascertain whether or not you truly have tight pelvic muscles. Then she will need to massage the proper muscles.
Age: 40 | Onset Age: 40 | Symptoms: Tightness in rectum, golfball feeling in rectum, shooting pain in tip of penis when lying down, sitting too long, urgency at times, frequent urination after drinking a couple of glasses of water in a row | Helped By: Relaxing, standing up and dropping pelvic floor (hard to do for me when lying or sitting), walking, taking things with a lighter attitude, not personalizing things so much, being aware of when I am getting anxious then deep breathing/RSA breathing | Worsened By: stress, catastrophic thinking
