Is this a flair up or has my condition just got a lot worse?

Post by Explorer »

During the past five months I have managed to keep my condition under control with help of naproxen (other NSAIDs that I've tried also helped, but naproxen worked best). My regular daily dosage has been 375 milligrams or 412.5 mg (one and a half 275 mg pill), depending on which pills I would find in a pharmacy. Occasionally, I would feel better and would go through a couple of days with only 275 mg. This treatment didn't remove 100% of my symptoms (as doxazosin - cardura did until I developed tolerance to it), but it made me 90-95% and I was OK with that.
However, last week my condition got worse (all symptoms returned), and I had to double the naproxen dosage. For the past few days I've been taking 825 mg per day.
Is it possible that my chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome could progress so quickly that I had to double my medicine within a couple of days? BTW, what is your experience - once you got CPPS, and before you went to PT, has your condition changed over time, did your symptoms slowly get worse?
Since I know you'll ask - I don't remember any significant events that could have caused a flair up. I did have a stressfull day last Thursday, but this has started a few days before that.
Age: 31 | Onset Age: 28 | Symptoms: pain in the area just above the penis root, lower back pain, pain in a buttock, some burning inside rectum, frequent urination, urination at night, post urination dribbling, spraying urine. | Helped By: doxazosin, naproxen, avoiding red meat and milk products. | Worsened By: cold weather and possibly stress.

Sounds like a flare, common enough. I don't think just relying on anti-inflammatories on their own is a good strategy for getting better.
Good News! The great ProstaQ is BACK at last! You must try it.

Thank you for your fast answer.
I know that these pills won't cure me... But there is no PT to be found in this country... In a couple of years when family business develops, I might decide do go to Stanford, or look for some therapist closer to home. But for now...
I haven't read the entire A HEADACHE IN THE PELVIS yet, but from what I did read it seems that Dr Wise claims that PT is the only thing which can cure a patient. Stretches and relaxation only aid that process. Is there anybody here who got much better by practising only stretching and relaxing?
And talking about relaxing - I was doing some "amateur" relaxing (without any tapes or similar stuff) recently, and I noticed something. When my pelvis area (especially rectum) becomes relaxed (at least as relaxed as I can get it to be), I begin to feel a burning inside rectum. It is a strange feeling, because I don't feel that burning usually. Quite often after that relaxation session I have a "bowel movement" (or whatever is a polite way to name that in English, you know what I mean).
