Bowen Technique

Post by garyholc »

Wondered if anyone had tried or heard of this. There are a few practitioners near me whom I might try:

It interests me as a friend of mine who has a nerve condition in her back (which causes all pain throughout the body to be intensified, even just a cut finger will hurt ten times more than if we had done the same) has found it very beneficial in reducing her pain. Reading about it, the technique seems to consist of skin rolling and stimulation of the tissues and relaxation, encouraging healing and calming of the nerves. Prices seem reasonable too - £25 for an hours session with a practitioner near me.

I gave it a go tonight and had an appointment with a local therapist. Went through all my symptoms etc. She said she thinks it may help, its good for people with bad backs, IBS and nerve pain. Anyway, the massage is done through clothes and it is very gentle, a few movements on the skin in certain places, then she left the room, then a few more somewhere else, then she left, and so on for an hour. It was weird her leaving the room all the time for 5 mins at a time, but she says the technique needs time between treatments for healing to commence.

I felt very relaxed by the end of it, and dare I say, with less of an ache below than when I went in, but she said it will take at least 4 sessions to see any real benefit. At £25 each I will give it a go and report back on any longer lasting progress I have made with this technique. Personally, I dont see it being much of a help, but I'm willing to try anything!

Age, 44 onset age 37 Feb 2006 Freq. need to urinate. Sensation of having to urinate soon after going. Perineum discomfort/burning/tightness, pubic area discomfort @ times, poor urine stream, post urine dripping/spray. All symptoms have improved with my protocol. At the worst I give it a 1 to 2 on irritation and discomfort and frequency. Helps: Elavil 5mg for anxiety and mast cell protection, (will only take it as needed) self internal PT as needed, stretching, walking, stairmaster cardio workout and light weights, reducing stress, moment to moment relaxation, deep breathing relaxation and using a Theracane. Makes worse: sitting for long periods, stress, over focusing on it. Currently 95%-98% recovered. Stay positive, relaxed and control your anxiety.

Just an update, but amazingly, since the appointment I had on Tuesday, Wednesday the pain had eased, Thursday it had totally gone, and same again today, totally pain free and feeling, well, normal I guess. Not sure if this is attributable to the Bowen massage I had, but I am going for another one on Tuesday and will keep you posted as to if I remain pain free....

Had another appointment yesterday. Up until the appointment my aches had come back. After the appointment, same as last time, I felt the aches were still there but not as bad. Today, once again, like last time, I am totally normal with no aches and pains. I am going to keep doing these massages and see how it goes but if anyone else has a practitioner near them, it would be interesting to see if they find the same good results I am having. Search for Bowen Technique on the web. The good thing is that its much cheaper than an hour's PT, for me anyway, but with just as good, if not better results...
