Guys,
Just a short word. I've spent the last 4 months working, under guidance, on various muscle groups that surround and support the pelvic area. These include the g. medius, adductors, and trans. ab. Some the strengthening exercises are Pilates inspired. Initially I could only do a few reps of these exercises before my muscles in that area burned like a blow torch. Now I'm up to using leg weights.
One of the things I've read elsewhere about physiology is that these muscle areas act to stabilize the pelvis, esp the g. medius. When they are weak, the pelvis can get twisted and/or tilted. This would seem to put undo extra pressure on the pelvic floor. Besides Scooby who is a bodybuilder I would guess the majority of us are working in jobs at desks which eventually cause all of these muscles to become weak.
My PT said my pelvis would fluctuate from normal to twisted to tilted. These exercises are aimed at significantly strengthening them to aid stability in the pelvis, and hopefully take load off of the pelvic floor. In otherwords, let the pelvic floor manage the viscera, and let the other muscles stabilize the pelvis.
I will post updates as I go.
