Claritin, Allegra, Vistaril, Atarax, Zantac etc are antihistamines. There is a strong belief among scientists that IC and CP (both are part of the "chronic pelvic pain" group of illnesses) results from mast cell stimulation, caused by one of many triggers, ranging from exercise to food allergens to cold to chemicals to some drugs to some infections ...the list is long.

When mast cells secrete chemicals ("degranulate"), problems arise. Each one of the group of chemicals they secrete can cause problems. Histamine is just one of these chemicals. Antihistamines help to block the action of some of this histamine.

It's not a cure, but it helps.

Mark-

Thanks for your help.. You do a good thing by helping all these people out...

Anyhow, I looked at those threads and read up on the anti-histamines.. Seems like its a double edge sword.. I just want to clarify:

-So taking them can be a double edge sword, since they can cause restricting of the smoothe muscles down there...But I believe you said that Claritin doesn't (it still has the warning n the box), and does anyone get relief from claritin, and could it cause erection problems by tensing up the muscles

- I can not take Flomax, I tried and had the retrograde ejaculation problem... quite unbearable

-i didn't see anything specific to dosing....

Sorry for all the questions man...Thanks though

Claritin is no better than other antihistamines. I take Allegra, which doesn't make me sleepy at all.

If you use Hydroxyzine (one of the most effective and powerful antihistamines), try Hytrin as an alpha-blocker. No retrograde ejaculation problems with that.
