You are what you eat
Age:33 | Onset Age:19 | Symptoms:burning urethra, deep sore stinging around the perineum, dribbling | Helped By:when flare starts deep relaxing over a toilet to let out dribbling urine, hot bath, rubbing a heat cream on the perineum, Tens with a pad on the perineum, running, medication (solpadol) for pain. Current treatment: PT. | Worsened By:sitting, stressing over it, ejaculation, sometimes alcohol but I risk it. Been feeling a lot better last 6 months about 85% with a few flares lasting about 5 days. No longer having PT. Stretching every other night and I believe time is also a big factor for me

Yes the line "Eating wheat and dairy is still relatively new for our bodies" has been mentioned here before, and wheat is something that is pretty hard to avoid these days, it seems to be in nearly everything, no doubt many of us are eating too much of it. I know I used to eat a lot of pasta previous to having this condition, but have cut back quite a bit now. But looking at ingredients on products its amazing just how many foods contain wheat.

Staying away from wheat is really tuff. I don't think it effects me too much to eat wheat but a healthy mostly vegetarian diet definitely helps. Keeping my bowel movements smooth prevents me from getting spasm internally. I eat a lot of things from the anti-inflammatory diet and think that it is helping. I think everyone with this condition should focus on diet with their protocol because I truly believe it helps. A healthy mind, body and soul is my goal! :-D
Age 32, onset 32 Onset Aug 07- frequency was main problem in the beginning-really bad. Now 1 to 2x per night when frequency flairs up. Sore and tight lower abdominal muscles. Occasional burning after bowel movement and full feeling. What helps: Healthy diet(this is huge for me) Started drinking super greens supplament and almost going totally vegetarian to get body more alkaline, starting Prosta-Q, quercetin/zinc tablet in morning helped frequency problem I believe. Massaging abs and doing stretches helps calm down frequency when it is acting up. Wine or vodka after long day. Flexeral and melatonin at night. Swimming and light weights. .5 of Elavil every other day helps with frequency and healing process. Trying to stay positive and not stressing over this!

Interesting, I have been eating like garbage for the past couple months, and let me tell you the past few days I have had horrible stomach cramps and pain, awful BM's and the like. This is also worsening a flare that had died down. I agree with the article, I'm going to eat a little healthier for the next couple weeks and see what happens. Hopefully it will be good.

I don't know if you have IBS but for me I believe its causing some sort of chain reaction to the pelvic floor. I think I need to experiment more with my diet. I didn't notice any significant changes going wheat free for 3 weeks. And I haven't noticed anything that really flares me significantly other than coffee. When I was a teenager I used to get allergy shots to build up my immunity against allergens. One of them was grasses, wheat is a grass ... right. But I haven't found wheat to be a trigger. Is 3 weeks long enough to exclude wheat? I plan on getting the book webslave recommended FOOD ALLERGIES AND FOOD INTOLERANCES and trying some of the exclusion diets in there. Hopefully I see some results.
Age:30 | Onset Age:27 Symptoms: Golfball sensation, cramping in the rectum, inflamed/tight levator ani, occasional frequent urination, mild constipation, occasional burning testicular pain, IBS. Helped By: Exercise, Stretching (Yoga) specifically a deep lunge or pidgeon, running, beer, alcohol, relaxing, deep breathing Worsened By: Sitting for long periods (even w/ doughnut cushion), Stress, tight pants, caffeine, coffee in particular Tests: Pelvic MRI, Colonoscopy, Anal Monometry, STD, Pudendal Nerve Block. Botox into obturator internis, levator ani, and piriformis. Meds Xanax, Phenibut (The phenibut works awesome, better than the Xanax in my opinion)

If wheat is causing you problems, excluding it completely (read labels, wheat and gluten are additives in a LOT of foods!) for 3 weeks should result in some changes in bowel function (but not pelvic pain; that takes much, much longer). If you notice no changes, gluten is not your problem.

For more on a gluten-free diet:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gluten-free_diet

and see the "gluten sensitivity series":

elitynski, you can just google "anti-inflammatory diet" and you will get plenty of info. It is pretty much just getting list of foods that fight inflammation and trying to eat more of them. Don't know how much it helps but it is very healthy.
