Hi there,
I wonder if anyone can identify with my experience. A year ago I went to A&E with a chronic pain above my right testicle. It was horrendous. The Dr prescribed me some pain killers and some antibiotics. they concluded that I had epididymitis. The following month was a a bit of a blur cos I did not respond well to the antibiotics. Nevertheless I persisted with the course.
By the end of the month the acute pain above my testicle had gone but I did note a new type of dull constant ache developing in my groin area. This persisted for a little while and became bad enough for me to go back to the Dr and they gave me some more antibiotics. The pains disappeared for a few weeks and then returned.
This pattern of pain above my testicle, dull pain in my groin, Dr's appointments, antibiotics, then no pain, and then back to pain has persisted for months. It has been very debilitating and am not really quite sure what's happening. I recently went to the Dr and he said that I may not even have an infection in my epididymitis and then I kind of wondered why I had so much pain!
I have been tested for STD's, I have been scanned all over, I have tried lots of antibiotics but the pain above my testicles and the concurrent dull pain in my groin keeps returning. interestingly, when I wake up I very rarely have any pain. It tends to build over the course of the day. I think it is possible that my stress levels and poor sleep patterns could be exacerbating the situation but I am not sure. I do not have any pain urinating, and my sexual faculties seem to be working ok. I recently started a job as a teacher, so spend all day on my feet and I wonder if posture or just physical exhaustion could be triggering things.
I am currently at the end of a two week course of antibiotics and thankfully a recent very, very acute bout of epididymitis pain seems to have abated and I have only had a couple of short lived periods of the dull constant pain in my groin. however, given this has happened before I am naturally very sceptical about the pain staying away.
Is it possible that my initial bout of epididymitis has morphed into CPPS? And if so does anybody have any suggestions as to how I should proceed for here? Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
Jason
From epididymitis to CPPS, is it possible?

Please fill in your signature as per the sticky.
Yes, it is very possible to go from epididymitis to CPPS. Do a search for epididymitis on the forum (note spelling please, I had to edit your post to correct the spelling). You'll find lots of advice in the posts you find.

Thank you for making the corrections to my piece. It's much appreciated. Sadly, it seems my two week respite from the pain has just ended. Today, was brutal. Right testicle, radiating up and out of the area. Am UK based, so the next step I am going to have to take is finding a specialist. Would you have any idea where one should start? tx.

If this does not apply to you:

...then go and see Bill Taylor. His contact details are in the Clinics forum.

Re: From epididymitis to CPPS, is it possible?
hi there, once again, thanks so much for taking the time to reply to my post.
I think a call to Bill Taylor is my next step. Indeed, I did locate a place on London called the "London Pain Consultants". Have you heard of them? The consultants name is Chris Jenner. They appear to have some knowledge of CPPS.
Nevertheless, I think that my first stop should be Edinburgh, and we'll go from there.
Thanks again.
Jason

Never heard of that Clinic. Taylor is the best bet, or if you are adventurous, Stanford.

Well worth a trip to Bill to let him give you an initial examination, then take it from there. He seems to be having some good success with people on this board including me.
Age:33 | Onset Age:19 | Symptoms:burning urethra, deep sore stinging around the perineum, dribbling | Helped By:when flare starts deep relaxing over a toilet to let out dribbling urine, hot bath, rubbing a heat cream on the perineum, Tens with a pad on the perineum, running, medication (solpadol) for pain. Current treatment: PT. | Worsened By:sitting, stressing over it, ejaculation, sometimes alcohol but I risk it. Been feeling a lot better last 6 months about 85% with a few flares lasting about 5 days. No longer having PT. Stretching every other night and I believe time is also a big factor for me

Hi there,
Thanks so much for your responses. It's much appreciated.
My cycle continues to play out. After two weeks of no pain whilst on the antibiotics, my chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome kicked in again on Saturday. After nearly a week of that it seems to have passed, but in it's is the familiar rumblings of epididymitis. That's even though I just received a letter from my doc saying there was no infection indicated in my sperm or urine. Goodness, this situation is tricky, it really starts to play on the mind. I wouldn't wish it on anyone!
Anyway, I took your advice, and have booked an appointment with Mr Taylor in Edinburgh in a couple of weeks. The trick is getting there in one piece!
Hey ho, onwards and upwards, I only have one life and I'm gonna do my best to make the most of it chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome or not.
Tx again for your help.
Jason
