Pipsissewa (herbal cures: warning)

I am writing to caution against the use or suggestion of herbal teas and tinctures. I have had an extremely bad experience with a herbal tincture called pipsissewa, described in a book called "the male herbal" as "gentle yet powerful." I am curious if anyone else has ever taken it. Herbal teas have tannin and volatile oils that can damage the bladder, according to anecdotal accounts on the web. They are also powerful diuretics. Why anyone would recommend them is beyond me. Even saw palmetto.
