Supplements to try

Post by ramana »

Not able to get lasting relief from SP and medications, am adding supplements to the routine
Am on natural calm (started yesterday) + cod liver oil (carlson super 1000 mg since 2 months) + vitamin B12 (bricker lab 1 ml liquid).
Already tried any accredited quercetin product for a month with no change in symptoms.
Anything else that I can try?
I culled the following from various discussions on this website
  • L Arginine (for ED mainly, I haven't even gone to the stage of E in the ED so not useful at least at this stage)
Melatonin (Elavil is doing the sleeping trick for now)
    st john's wort
    GABA
MSM (not much discussion apart from a few posts)
L-Theanine (anxiety - Elavil may be helping it already)
    DLPA (pain reduction)
    Gingko balboa (increases blood flow)
    serrapeptease (reduces inflammation)
    aloe vera
    different teas
Posting it in the general discussion to get more feedback. I really wish we can prepare a guidebook through discussion which has
a) supplement name
b) effect
c) which brand . This is really important as I have been totally confused by different claims made by different brands

To combat enzyme deficiencies, if you possibly have them (I believe I do, as Dr Brostoff says in his book that people with many food intolerances may have enzyme problems), and in any case useful for flooding the body with antioxidants, I find using a juicer to juice things like carrots, sugar beets, pears, nectarines etc is very useful. You can actually feel the flood of energy and well-being after drinking a glass of fresh vegetable and fruit juice.

I recommend the Champion Juicer, the world's best.

I was tested for gluten intolerance but found nothing. I can try the juices though.

Try Zyflamend:

http://www.immunesupport.com/zyflamend.htm

It beats taking NSAIDs for weeks on end.

I combine it with a compound of Quercetin, Saw Palmetto and Vitamin C together with a Zinc supplement

I have had juices before - courtesy of friends and roommates and they do seem to be very healthful and energizing.

Webslave - do you have any recommended blends both for taste and energy that would be good for the Neophyte.

Couple other notes about Juicing:

MODELS:
Champion gets very high marks - the 2 others that good reviews are the OMEGA series and the BREVILE juicer

RECIPES:
You're right about the Web and Amazon has a great selection of books

BENEFITS:
SOme of the guys here have IBS issues - upon doing some reading, Juicing seems to be very beneficial for people with IBS as it doesn't tax the digestive system so much.

Broccoli broth. I did it for a while about 2 month into my onset of symptoms. Not sure if it helps but the slightly bitter soup calmed my nerves.

I had forgotten about this. My impression was that broccoli broth treatment went out after discovery of muscles as the cause of pain. In any case I have no urinary symptoms (thankfully) but otherwise everything else (and prostrate is absolutely normal it seems).

I'm a newbie here but thought I'd throw in my current routine of supplements.

Pumpkin Seed Oil: 2tbls 2 x day
(I felt real improvement from this initially but that only lasted for a few weeks but I still take it)

Stinging Nettle
Quercetin - seems to help some
Lycopene
Zinc
Flax Seed Oil
Fish Oil
Saw Palmetto

Acai Juice:
This seems to help, it does a hell of a colon cleanse :) but also seems to lessen the disgusting feeling in penis but not the pain in testicles. It is very high antioxidant and seems to have some anti inflammatory properties. It's expensive and if you are going to try it get 100% not a blend. Bossa Nova is the brand I like, tastes great. The blends just ruin the taste and are overly sweet.

Not really a supplement but a replacement for the coffee that I miss so much.
Coca Tea:
Mild stimulant effect (less than a good cup of coffee) and it's loaded with calcium and vitamins. It's not going to get you high or addicted or anything of the sort. In their natural state coca leaves are simply good for you, the amount of alkaloid known as cocaine is minute and is mostly destroyed by stomach acid anyway. I drink a couple of cups in the morning and while it's not the wake up boost that coffee was it's something and helps me feel more normal having a hot wake up beverage like I have had every day for over 30 yrs.
Age 48: Onset July 2007, Current | Symptoms: testicle pain, groin tenderness, burning urination, lower back pain, frequent urination, ejaculation pain.

There are posts here somewhere from a guy who had real relief from olive oil. That still intrigues me.

I take docusate sodium (stool softener) and milk of magnesia as needed to avoid constipation at all costs. It can set off flares for me.

I'm on a boatload of Lyrica right now, and it has helped enormously with the pain, but one downside is that I can't really tell if I am getting an more subtle help from supplements, so I'm not experimenting with them anymore.

Just a warning to stay off GABA for those on SSRIs like paxil and prozac.
I am not a doctor too!
Age 64, sudden onset 5/06 during bout of flu, colitis, lung and liver problems. Pain in penis, then moved to rectum. No urinary symptoms. Use Lyrica, Elavil, paxil, Xanax, morphine, vicodin, relaxation, pads for sitting, 100+ PT sessions. Sensitive to gluten, milk protein, soy. I have CFS, anxiety, GERD, Barrett's, colitis, kidney stones, one of which referred pain to penis.

I was reading a back pain book (written by the patient himself along with a doc). It mentions DLPA as a good thing to try. On this site there are three threads with the most info in this viewtopic.php?f=37&t=3442&p=17540
However, this was in 2005 and maybe there is more data.
After searching google with DLPA pain, I found a few sites like doctoryourself.com and this wholehealthmd.com
that reinforce the view that it can be used for chronic pain.

It will be great if anyone can share their experience.

Thanks webslave. I did look at that. Well it does not help me decide whether to try it or not. I was hoping for some anecdotal evidence or stories from patients etc for more insights.
