Can IC/frequency be caused my damaged "upper sphincter

Post by jori »

Is it possible that bladder outlet (or bladder neck or upper sphincter or whatever it is called) is damaged/weakened or overstretched so that it can't resist the pressure of bladder and immediately leaks the urine into the urethra? It doesn't cause incontinence since the actual "lower" sphincter is functional.

In the tube (upper part of the urethra) it starts to irritate the bladder area and causes visicious cycle: nerve damage, prostate problems, "urination need" signaling etc.

Is there any way to detect if the bladder outlet is enlarged or non-functional ? and I don't mean the sphincter!!

The most dominant of my symptoms are: condition is stable (=no changes, which makes a mechanic condition an alternative), frequency (quick pressure after urination) and tender bladder.

Opinions, please!

Imaging studies and other studies do not support this idea. chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome is not the result of a mechanical flaw.
Good News! The great ProstaQ is BACK at last! You must try it.

From what I understand- and I'm no doctor, damage like you describe is unlikely but there is a chance with IC like symptoms that the bladder is diseased or damaged.

Another theory is that the prostatic epithileum could be leaky.

This would be like an IC condition in the prostate, I guess(?)

That's my understanding, but I read it in the literature of the company that makes Elmiron, not an independent source.

I don't know how you'd know. There is a guy who posts here who has been diagnosed with a leaky epithileum I think. I guess Elmiron is the only licensed treatment. There's also Algonot which is made by one of the top IC guys, Theoharides.

I'm sure someone with more expertise can comment more fully...
